1 gallon apple cider Directions Place the cider in a large non-reactive pan (stainless steel, enamel, glass) attractive enough to serve from. Float the other ingredients and warm until steaming over low heat, covered to prevent evaporation. Do NOT bring to a boil. (I like to allow it to stand at temperature for about half an hour before serving for the spices to flavor the cider nicely.) Before serving, remove the cinnamon sticks, ginger and allspice. Leave the oranges and apple slices for garnish. If you are serving your guests away from the stove, ladle into cups, then top with a small dollop of whipped cream sprinkled with nutmeg or cinnamon. If guests will be serving themselves, omit this garnish.
