Besides Bast, what deities are associated with cats?  Which ones are particularly interested in supporting the care of cats, stray and otherwise?

Does anyone here have any cat-centered deity relationships?  How would you describe it?

Do you mean domestic cats or other felines too?

Freyja is associated with cats.

Sekhmet has the head of a lioness and is a deity over health and healing so I think she'd be associated with taking care of cats too.

Domestic cats. (We have 16 in our house at the moment.  No -- not planned!  Cheesy )

Thanks for the pointers to Freyja and Sekhmet.  I'll do some research.  Smiley

When I left for college, I asked the house spirit of my family's home and the land spirits in the area to keep an eye out for my cat. I was never close to Bast and felt weird about asking her and I hadn't thought about Freyja. I think the house spirit would have done it anyways as he tends to look after any living thing in under the roof. The land spirits in an odd way kind of like him and they obliged as I'm on pretty good terms with them.

It's not really a cat centered relationship but it's cat-related.

This link -might- help.

I imagine any earth-mother deity might be willing to help, too... with cats or any beasts.  Also, goddesses of the harvest, since cats would kill mice and rats getting into the grain stores. It might be a stretch, but it's not unreasonable to imagine.

This is an interesting thought, too, since the recent birth of a litter of 5 kittens is part of what prompted my question.  Wink

Oh, my.

Any chance of getting the mother spayed after this to prevent more kitties from being born?

Oh, yeah!

Just for the record, the mama -- whose name is now Lily -- showed up in our driveway already pregnant and with two older kittens in tow.  We took them in because we're suckers. Cheesy   They're all now indoor cats.  The older male kitten, Sasha, will be neutered first as soon as the vet says he's old enough, to prevent any more pregnancies.  Then we'll get his sister, Lana, and mama Lily spayed as soon as we can afford to.

As for the 5 kittens...  We're still deciding what to do about them.  We KNOW we need to find homes for them.  Sixteen cats is too many even for a large-ish house.  But we're all already completely in love with them.  Like I said, suckers.

Don't worry, though, if we do keep them, they will be neutered/spayed.  Boys first, probably, both to prevent any accidents and because they're cheaper.  And to keep them from starting to spray and getting aggressive.

The operations will probably be my anniversary and Christmas gift.  Undecided

Yeah, we've always been careful about spaying and neutering.  Which hasn't prevented us from having to raise 3 litters of kittens, thanks to stray mamas who decide to let us help them raise their babies.

You might look at Mafdet as well.  She was sometimes associated with "domesticated" cats, and was said to bring the hearts of wrongdoers to the Pharaoh, much as a cat will bring prey to its humans.  She was also known for being a serpent- and scorpion-killer.

Thanks for the tip!  Any pointers on where to find reliable info?
