Tarot Deck Review:
Tarot of the Cat People

The designs of this deck are taken after characters in Karen's fantasy universe of "The Outer Regions". (As far as I know, only one book set in this universe has been published, written I think by Andre Norton -- but as I can't find the book right now I can't swear to that, or give you its title!) Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of material on this universe in the enclosed booklet (perhaps it's in the big book, which came out some time after the deck did; I don't have a copy so...) which leaves some of the symbolism hanging. Technically, the artwork in these cards is very nice. There is lots of wonderful detail, vibrant colors, and a balanced layout make the designs resemble art prints.

Her cats are wonderfully expressive - sometimes, unfortunately, more so than the people who also occupy the cards. If there is a fault to this deck, it is that the people in them are very static, too posed to give real "life" to the cards. While I don't use this deck for readings, I do use it for meditation -- and just enjoying the artwork.
