Oh, that was clever! Seriously, what on earth did they think would happen? Heavy usage of harsh language? The last people who broke into my house got threatened with an antique sword that I grabbed off my wall (although this was a few years ago now). Anyone is going to defend themselves when people break into their property, especially at that time of night! And if you think that they are armed with guns, don't break in and be suprised when you get shot.

I think they might have been hoping to get upstairs while the suspect was still hunting for his gun.
