Oh hell, why not. They've been rewriting history for some time now, this move really doesn't surprise me.  Roll Eyes

Building a More Conservative Bible

It looks like Conservapedia, the conservative alternative to Wikipedia founded by Andy Schlafly, son of the Eagle Forum's Phyllis Schlafly, has undertaken a new project - making a more conservative Bible:

I'm guessing they are taking out the parts where Jesus challenged the established authority like so many godless liberals are now doing?

I suspect that will be part of it.

looks like a version that I will NOT be acquiring.  I'm wondering how they will translate that bit about it being easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.  Off to see if they've translated that yet.  In the article they translated pharasees as intellectuals.

oh, I particularly like changing "Pharisee" to "intellectual."  That's just charming.

Because it's EASY to just translate across from one specific cultural group to a word that just means anyone that dares to go around THINKING.

wow.

wow.

actually, they didn't change the needle thing at all, I forgot about that prosperity gospel line in there about if you give up everything for god, you will get everything back a hundred fold, so they don't need to change that.  (this irritates me, because it turns your loved ones into things that you will get back. NOw I realise in that time, children and wives were possessions, but they were still supposed to get some loyalty.

Makes sense seeing as how the ones that challenge their beliefs tend to be the ones who think for themselves and/or know a good deal of human and natural history.  If a prerequisite for getting into heaven is not using your brain, I would rather take my chances in hell.  (Oh great just what I need, another plot bunny!)

I think that another factor is the horrible anti-intellectualism that is prevalent in this country.

I suspect that will be part of it.

No, they are just relabeling the challenged authority as intellectuals, and denying that they are the authority.

Building a More Conservative Bible

It looks like Conservapedia, the conservative alternative to Wikipedia founded by Andy Schlafly, son of the Eagle Forum's Phyllis Schlafly, has undertaken a new project - making a more conservative Bible:

Part of what bothered me about Mike Huckabee running for president was because he said something along the lines of how America needed to bring the Constitution more in line with the Bible.

I shudder to think what that would mean after the conservatives bring the Bible more in line with their ideals.

And yet another reason to read it in it's originial language.

I find it ironic that they replace shriveled with crippled while complaining about how the NIV is written to the 7th grade level. Although I don't remember how the NIV reads.

 tongue in cheek warning.

Oh, pooh, just because your religion chooses to make everyone learn hebrew.

which , now that I think about it, isn't necessarity a bad thing. OF course, your translation can still get screwed if you have the wrong teacher, and I'm sure they'll publish a consercative dictionaty or something like that.

Isn't there some verse in the Bible that says you suffer some kind of divine retribution if you alter the words in the book in question?
