http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenyatta

She has 14 wins in 14 starts - a new American record.  Eight of those are Grade I races.  She is also the first horse ever to win two different Breeder's Cup races, the Ladies Classic in 2008 and the Classic (against 'the boys') yesterday.

Like Secretariat, she runs each successive fraction faster than the previous.  She is four inches taller than Secretariat was, nearly as tall as Forego.

She didn't start racing until she was 3 1/2 which is probably why she is still sound (given her size).

Fantastic is a good way to describe that race. The stretch was simply amazing. She came out of nowhere.

I'm still rooting for Rachel Alexandra for Horse of the Year. Smiley

I told Randall a couple of days ago how amazing it was that we're talking about two FILLIES for the honor rather than one of the boys.

It's been an amazing year. (And lets not forget Pepper's Pride. GIRL POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol)

Rachel can have it next year - let the retiree have it! Cheesy

I'd not heard of her - interesting read.  It would appear the racing world is finally coming to grips with the fact that it doesn't have to have testicles to run.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can do that. Now, just what the people who have a vote will do, I don't know. But my vote would have gone to Zenyatta earlier in the year, but I moved over to the Rachel camp in August.

I think it's also something to remember that it doesn't always have to be on one of the coasts. Sure, she ran in New Mexico, but any horse that can put together that many undefeated races is someone to be reckoned with no matter WHERE they're running.

She's a great story. I think they sent her to Tiznow for breeding, but it might have been someone else...it's been a while since I read it.

The article said she's in foal to Tiznow.

I want to know who is going to cover Z.

I thought that's who I remembered, but like I said, it's been awhile.

I just hope she (and the other two) don't end up being like Genuine Risk w/r/t fertility. I really want to see them take and their foals race.

btw...we just started a documentary tonight. It's actually a photoseminar given by Gabrielle Boiselle, so if you're in to photography it's great...we're just in it for the equine eye candy (and it's definitely got that), and I thought of you as soon as it started. Smiley

She looks at horses in ways I would never think of. Good photographers truly do see the world differently from the rest of us. LOL.

Yeah, I was just reading the updates in the Chronicle of the Horse forums.  She has been putting in 5f works in :48.  If she was going to be bred, she should have been in KY under lights a month ago to get her cycling, not training.  Shoulda seen it coming...

So now the question is - will they put her against Rachael?

I suspect the only way they'll meet is on dirt. Jackson is pretty well against the synthetic surfaces, and if he wouldn't change his mind for the Classic, I'm not too sure he'll go out of his way for another race. Course, it could depend, too, on how well RA does this spring when she comes off her winter layoff. Maybe sometime this summer? Who knows.

It would be interesting, but I can't see them going out of their way to do so.
