thank you.

That is the quote I was thinking of but could not name the source, so I paraphrased....

It's (Arthur C.) Clarke's Third Law, IIRC.

I'm not really comforatable with any of these definitions. By relegating magic to a realm soley dealing with will and/or mysticism/religion, it completely discounts many kinds of folk or hedgewitch magic.

Magic done using herbs and such, or sympathetic magic using props, is more about the tools than the will, and many may have no mystic or religious overtones at all.

To me, magic is a way to achieve a desired result using means that are not wholey defined by medicine or science.
I practice what I call "backwoods magic", similar to hedgewitch magic.  There most definately is a bit of science involved,  but the majority of it is drawing and directing energy.   Any spellwork involving other people can also contain a bit of self hypnosis.  For some situations, I simply pray to the Gods for guidance or assistance, and no majic is used.  For more specific outcomes, I use spells with the permission of the Gods.   Unless they deny permission (which they havn't yet) they are invited to watch, participate, or even alter my spell if they choose.
