The only thing I know of that works (and then only sometimes, alas) is to drive it out with an equally or more mind-rivetingly catchy tune that you dislike less.

....or we can do it her way.

Sometimes if you listen to the damn song, and sing along loudly, several times in a row, it'll clear the damn thing outta your system like nothing else will.

I was once told that if you sang "The Brady Bunch" theme song it would get it out of your head. It works, but then you have that song in your head.

I had forgotten how much I loved this band when they came out:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNFfDirBE6w" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNFfDirBE6w</a>

In English:
Youre the most beautifull woman in Ireland, youre the love of my life.
I need your kisses to live. Baby, be my wife.
Your father doesnt like me, or the people I come from.
So Ill have to kick his ass, to have you as my woman.

Roisín, I want to fight your father
Roisín, I want to fight your father

Im a karate master, I have mastered kung fu
I'll beat the crap out of him, and beat sense into the fool.
Your stupid father, he wants to fight me too
Your stupid father, will end up on his hole

Im as fierce as cu chulainn! as fit as Fionn Mc Cumhail!
No other Irish man!!, can do you like I do!!.

Roisín, I want to fight your father
Roisín, I want to fight your father
Hey!
Roisín, I want to fight your father
Roisín, I want to fight your father

Roisín

He doesnt know that Id do anything, to prove my love for you.
He doesnt know it was me who stole his tyres!, to pay for your tattoo!.
He says he knows Ill break your heart!!, but when I close his eyes he wont be so smart!!.
I'll smash his skull to smithereens!!! and slice his belly with a blade!!!.

Roisín, I want to fight your father
Roisín, I want to fight your father..

Well, it's okay in Irish, since I can't understand it, though it may be one of the creepiest music videos I've ever seen.  Seriously dude, right up there with Slipknot.

Also, really, is English the only language on the planet without guttural consonants?

Woods of Ypres. I've had a couple of their albums since 2006 or 2007 but they never quite did it for me. In their more recent albums, too, the song titles and lyrics were just absolutely cringeworthy to me. And, hey, they still are. And for the longest time I just had a jovial loathing for them - not outright hatred but more of a playful thing, like that one friend everyone picks on.

But then something happened. It clicked in me. And now I can't really bring myself to listen to anything else. The lyrics and song titles are still terrible but I don't mind as much. I let it slide for the music. It's all growing on me and each of their releases are developing an identity of their own to my ear - the true sign of me falling for a band.
