Wha-what-WHAT?!??!!

No, you didn't miss anything, I was planning to throw it out for comment after the silly season Cheesy

Short version is, I have a friend in her mid-30s who has been told she either needs a full hysterectomy, or a 4-5yr course of treatment, to address chronic health issues. The treatment would leave her infertile until she was in her early-to-mid 40s, which she feels is tempting fate too much...

Thing is, she would really like to give birth to a child (and isn't particularly averse to having some level of contact with it after the event. She is not, however, in a fit mental/financial/general-lifestyle state to raise or consistently mother a child. Apparently, that's where I come in.

I have always hoped that life would place me in circumstances where parenting was a possibility (and preferably a fait accompli). It would appear that this is the only time it is going to be of a mind to do so. On the basis that there's never actually a good time to have a child, I have decided to do so. There are many hurdles to jump at this point, but that's the general idea.

I would like to be a parent (and don't think I have a particularly rose-coloured overlay on my idea of what that entails) and figure I should be able to handle with planning and luck what many people accomplish for no better reason than the back seat of the car was too close to the bar Cheesy

I'll start a thread to discuss it more fully when I get back from my family xmas whoopty-doo.

WOW. Major life decisions. Definitely worthy of its own thread. I'll await it after the holiday craziness subsides.

http://www.2thedeuce.com/news/kdvr-jesus-shoots-santa-122109,0,97701.story

NIPOMO, Calif. - A lawn display of "Jesus" shooting " Santa Claus" has residents in one San Luis Obispo County area up in arms.

The controversial Christmas display shows a Jesus figure pointing a double-barrel shotgun at a dead Santa figure. Santa's reindeer Rudolph lays sprawled across the hood of a pickup truck nearby.

Certainly one of the more graphic "Jesus is the reason for the season" displays.

The message is certainly less shocking than the manner in which it is conveyed.

I think it's absolutely outstanding. Every single person who screams about keeping Christ in Christmas and bitches because clerks wish people Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas should absolutely be required to have this on their front lawn.

EXCELLENT idea.

It's funny, yes.  That doesn't mean that across the street from a school bus stop is the appropriate place for it.

I found it  amusing, across the street from a bus stop is not really a great place for it, but on the other hand  my  kids would be coming home laughing at a display like that. Then again my kids  just have  very, very, very  sick senses  of humor and would  likely be trying to figure out how to pull that  off on my  balcony or  wanting me to go get picture of  it to show their dad in a couple  of days....  Roll Eyes
