Even if that magic is just being able to leave the house sure that you didn't leave the iron on.  It's the nature of rituals.  Even if the ritual is flexible and open to having parts plugged in  and pulled out, the order is still very central.

I guess what I'm getting at, is that in this case there is not the same flexibility to have parts plugged in and pulled out that might be present elsewhere.  If you had that flexibility, the narrative would lose some of its power (and get much more confusing).
