I was just watching Models of the Runway, because I'm a 20-something target-audience girl. It's a show on the Lifetime network that follows 16 girls compete for the final spot. Think America's Next Top Model.

So they do little spots of interviews with the girls and one named Alexis Broker says to the camera "My religion is witchcraft. Except only white magic, not black magic."

And that's all. They cut away after that.

What do you all think? Here's another link I found after I googled it that discusses it a bit.

Is that where I should say 'Magic is not black or white. It just is. It is the Witch who decides what effect it will have.' or is that a bit snippy?  Wink

Since she's already working magic it's our mission to corrupt her to the dark side so she becomes more sexy and has better career prospects as a model. Wink

It's basically a short version of Project Runway, from the models' perspective.

Dear Athena,

Hi, it's me again. If it's not too much trouble, could you keep little miss Fashion Witch from telling the cameras that all Pagans worship the Great Fluffy Bunnia?

Sincerely,

Me.

I think she's a neo-Wiccan who doesn't want to be hassled about her religion.  Big whoop.

(According to the nonfluffypagans community on livejournal, she has basically said that she's a neo-Wiccan who doesn't want to be hassled about her religion, and chose to answer an invasive question about her religion with stock neo-Wiccan soundbites.  Again, big whoop.)

Makes sense -- and, if so, I agree, big whoop.

I agree. I looked her up a bit and I'm sure she isn't asking for TEH FLAME WARZ. If anything, I'm simply surprised at the editing of the clip (a clip which I cannot find. mrrph.)

I don't see what's so surprising. A television show, especially a reality show, is going to edit things to make it as inflammatory as possible. That means that they get more hits online and people are going to be more apt to watch the show.

Surely if they were simply tring to be inflammatory they'd have cut it before she added that stock disclaimer about white witchcraft not black witchcraft. Then they could have made her look like she was bluntly stating she was a witch, which would play better to this audience here on TC, but be much more controversial for the (much larger) 'witches are eeeeevil' crowd. Sounds like fuss about nothing to me.
