I like that they plan on closing 7 of the 13 labs. I guess the plan is to outsource the testing. ::rolls eyes::

Why not, we out source everything else.  Maybe we should out source the presidency and the vice presidency?

The unfortunatew part is that our current adinistration does not seem to be concerined with the health and welfare of the citizens.  In my opinion that is treason, but by law that is nothing.

Heh...maybe we have? The lobbyists and corporations seem to be doing pretty darn well.

The way I see it, there's a special corner of hell reserved for those types.

Yeah, this has been bothering me quite a bit lately.  Seeing as how China at least seems to be Doing something (whether it's for looks or for real remains to be seen, I guess) about their food safety issues, I'm ready to start getting really angry at our own government.  Although, thankfully, our jack-a (cough) President will be out soon and we can HOPEFULLY have someone new who might just care.

The FDA is stretched so thin, our current system needs an overhaul!

Quite a stir at my local supermarket meat counter the other day over shrimp from Bangladesh & Viet Nam being the only choices available, no one was buying any. Guess no one thought about where it came from until it had to be labeled! Hummm consumer power?

I know my stepmom was raising hell about shrimp...trying to find out which gulf the Gulf shrimp came from. This was a few years ago and she didn't meet with much success...and didn't buy any shrimp, either.

And you wonder why the companies fight country of origin labels.

My dream would be to see  Cereal labeled as so: Wheat (GMO, US), Sugar (Haiti), Salt  (US), High Fructose Corn SYrup (Mexico), Modified Food Starch (GMO, CHina), Flavoring (CHina, Vietnam, Korea, US), Food COlor Blue 20 (Levitt Co,US), Red 20 (Sang Inc, china) and so on

Absolutely love it!

Only problem is that with each batch ingredients "country of origins" can change, so I doubt that it will ever be on labels, but how about products listed with batch # and country of origins (as you described) on company web sites at least?

What would really be a hoot would be for McDonald's to start listing the "country of origin" for their hamburger patties!

Hey, I can dream can't I?

I'm beginning to think I should just never eat spinach.

It may be that you should never eat produce from California. Sad
