Only staff members can start new book threads on this board as each thread's first message must be in a very specific format with specific links used, etc.  If you would like a thread on a specific fiction book started here, you may request it in this thread.

Each Request must have the following information or it will be ignored:

1) The (correct) title of the book
2) The author of the book
3) The book's ISBN (we prefer the old 10 digit one, but the new 13 digit will do).

Please don't hide the above in a lot of text in the middle of a paragraph. We will try to get new topics started as soon as the few people authorized to create book topics get around to it. This will NOT be immediately.

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

If anyone is interested, I thought it was pretty good and I've got it on my list of books to eventually own.

1. Witch Way to Murder
2. Shirley Damsgaard
3. 0060793481

This is the first in a seven book mystery series. I've read every one and the books do a very good job of presenting the magical stuff. I've highly enjoyed the series and will be reserving the newest book with the public library in about 5 minutes (since I just discovered it was out).

Book of Shadows
Cate Tiernan
ISBN-13: 9780142409862

Note: This is a series called Sweep. This is the first book in the series. I am actually kind of surprised no one has posted about it yet.Tongue

Randall,

I was just hoping to ask a question to anyone else who is reading:

Intrigues, Book Two of the Collegium Chronicles
Mercedes Lackey
ISBN-13: 978-0756406394

Unfortunately the author's website isn't accepting questions (since 2005 actually).

Intrigues is the second in Lackey's new Valdemar series, Foundation being the first of the series. Foundation was set supposedly far back in Valdemar's history, where they were just building the Herald's Collegium (the original version, not the addition added much later in Vanyel's time). At least that was the time frame I came out of when I read Foundation.

Having just gotten Intrigues, at about chapter four, I am now thoroughly confused. Which has never happened before with Lackey books. The same main character from Foundation just met another Herald whose grandfather knew Vanyel. They referenced Stefan in the chapter before that. So it appears that this book is set between the Vanyel books and the Mage Wars, when the Collegium is already long established.

This may seem like a trivial question but I've read everything that Lackey has ever written and I love her Valdemar world. So I'm thinking it is me that is wonky. Misty is too skilled a writer to make such a huge blunder with a time line. Just wanted to know if anyone else had come across the same thing or maybe what it was that I misinterpreted.

The Herald's College (building) was already there by the time of the Last Herald-Mage series, but new Heralds were still trained as an "apprentice" to a specific Herald. The College system (classes instead of apprenticeship) was established shortly thereafter. While I haven't read these new books, it should like they are set in the era when the method of training Heralds was changing from the original "apprenticeship" like system to the school/classes then internship system.

thanks Randall.

Yes I recognised the change in the system as being a theme. It is just figuring out where the heck this fits in the Valdemar chronology that is frustrating me.  I'm a writer though I only write for me to date and as such I create entire worlds. A consistent chronology is pretty important for a story and also to me being able to fall into a story and live there while I am writing/reading.
