You can now rate the books in our book discussion topics (from 1 to 5 stars -- one star is horrible, 5 stars is great). The stars show up in the thread list by the book name AND in the blue thread header when reading the messages in a particular book's discussion.  You can't click on the stars to rate the book, however. You have to use a drop down list and "Go" button on the blue thread header while reading the thread.

I'm probably blind from caffeine withdrawal... but where is the drop down list and "Go" button for rating books? The only drop down list I see is the "Jump to" at the bottom of the page.

I'm probably blind from caffeine withdrawal... but where is the drop down list and "Go" button for rating books? The only drop down list I see is the "Jump to" at the bottom of the page.

It's up at the top of the thread (for book discussion threads only, of course), over on the right-hand side.  At the very top of the messages there should be a dark blue bar with the thread's title in it; the rating drop-down is all the way over on the right side of that.  (Alternatively, if "under the mark unread/print/etc. buttons at the top of the thread" helps, that's accurate too.)  It's a small box, just wide enough for a couple of characters, not a big wide one like the Jump To box.

Did that help?...

I was looking in the right place... but it's not showing in my browser (Firefox). When I get to work, I'll try with Internet Explorer. Click thumbnail below for screenshot of my browser, taken this morning.

Huh.  That's really interesting...  I'll try to remember to look when I get home (where I'm running Firefox; I'm stuck with IE at work) and see if I've got the same problem there. (Which will help us figure out if it's a Firefox problem, or if it seems to be something specific to your system.)

(To ALL:)   Anyone else not seeing the drop-down?  Here's a sample thread to go look at:

Hrm.  That sounds to me like it might be something about the laptop itself, especially since other people can see it using the same browsers.  I'd suggest that it might be some problem with permissions not being set right for your account in the board software, but it looks like you and Selegna should have all the same settings as far as that goes, and she can see it...

Huh

Sorry, I forgot to ask--is there another computer you could try it on, to see if you can see it on a different machine?  (I understand that you might not be able to use that computer to read the forum all the time--I'm just trying to get a handle on the issue, is all.)

You should be able to see it now. The permissions settings for ratings are odd. Instead of giving membergroups permission to use it, you have to select membergroups that can't use it. I wanted to deny rating access to people who have made no posts and somehow checked both "Lucker" and "Apprentice" instead of just "Lucker".  Apologies for making this silly -- and hard to track down -- error.

Those kind of errors are what keeps computing... interesting. *wide grins* All's good.

Great feature!  I'm loving this book discussion SIG, even though I haven't had much input so far.

One question though:  It's difficult for me to read the ratings, since the stars are pretty much the same color (dark yellow vs slightly lighter yellow.)  Is there an option with a little more contrast?  Or should I just break down and get glasses?   Wink

Unfortunately not. That's what comes with the mod and as far as I can tell there is no easy way to change them.
