Caring for Pets Left Behind by the Rapture
For a fee, this service will place your dog or cat in the home of a caring atheist on Judgment Day

Many people in the U.S.—perhaps 20 million to 40 million—believe there will be a Second Coming in their lifetimes, followed by the Rapture . In this event, they say, the righteous will be spirited away to a better place while the godless remain on Earth. But what will become of all the pets?

Good enough for your pets - but too crappy for God?  that's insane!

See, I was going to get all snarky and say, "Well, there's another float in the stupid parade", but reading about his donations to food banks and pet charities makes me go, "Well, huh.  Maybe it's a good thing."  As long as he really isn't making money off of this scheme then why not, right?

It said he was donating proceeds "from Google ads" to charity.  This is different from what people actually pay him, right?

Frankly, I've no objection to him making a profit.

It's not like he's convincing people that the rapture is coming.  He's not responsible for their delusion (always assuming that they are deluded.)  You can blame their church for that.  He's providing a service, it's just not the one they think he's providing.  Even if his own motives are cynical, he's at least giving them some peace of mind.

Exactly. And he seems to be taking his clients seriously -- to the extent of actually arranging for someone to be able to pick up their pets if the Rapture does occur.

OK.  That was weird.  I meant to go back and add one thing right after I'd posted.  I guess I hit "quote" instead of "edit."  *blushes*

I actually thought of volunteering - he doesn't seem to have anyone in Arizona.  Unfortunately, it looks like he only wants atheists.

Granted, on the off chance the Rapture does occur, I'm sure I'll have more on my mind than pet-sitting.

*sarcasm* Maybe there is a "Are you absolutely certain you will be going to Hell" check box that could possibly override the whole atheist thing?

Could I bring the pets to the grey mists with me?  My own cats seem to like it here fine...  Undecided
