A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...

I was in Maryland anyway for an interview, admiring the aftermath of the snowpocalypse, when it occurred to me there were museums close by.

It only took a few seconds to really know where I wanted to go: the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, an auxiliary to the National Air and Space Museum.

So I took some pictures.  Twenty of them are presented here.

It was interesting that most of the nomenclatures came instantly to mind; only two that I was reasonably sure of were wrong.  Such is the mind of an eternal geek.

I took the time to come up with some details in the photo descriptions, some more detailed than others.

In all, the montage covers the time from the Wright Brothers to the Space Shuttle.

Enjoy. Smiley

What a surprise. That's likely the same choice I would have made.

Very cool!  I particularly like the pic of the turbine.  Mind if I make it my wallpaper for a while?

Ya know, it's odd, I LIVE in the DC area, and I'm a space geek (even been to Space Camp!) but I haven't been to the Air and Space auxiliiary yet.  Probably *because* I live here...

You might have enjoyed eavesdropping, as I did.  There was a couple about my age and the husband was explaining to his wife how a multi-stage rocket worked.  I was stunned at first, then realized not everyone is a geek. Roll Eyes

Then there were two college-age couples where one of the ladies explained to her b/f who Enola Gay was. Cheesy

How about I email you the original and you can resize/crop it as desired?

And yes, it's because you live there.  It's part of the backdrop.  Happens to most people.

How did this go, btw?

The interview went well, the follow-up not so well.  Someone is under-bidding me and I can only go so low.  I'm trying to sell quality over economy.

That would be very cool.  Thank you.

(I know I owe you an answer.  I've been having a hard time with the screen over the past few days.   Sad  That's why I come here -- I can do it in teeny tiny bits, one post at a time.  But I promise to answer as soon as I can.)

Yeah, I always forgot that most people really have no idea about stuff like this. I grew up with the space program and was fascinated by it, so I know stuff like. But I don't know baseball stats. LOL.

You are very welcome!  One never knows who will enjoy these things. Smiley

I do enjoy them, even though I don't know a lot about them, lol. We have a couple small interesting air museums here in Oregon.
This one is in an old WWII blimp hanger (been to this one): http://www.tillamookair.com/index.html
This one houses the Spruce Goose: http://www.sprucegoose.org/
I haven't been to the one in McMinnville yet... Maybe some day. Smiley

I'm sorry someone undercut you on the bid. Some people just don't get quality anymore. Sad

They have a PBY Catalina!  Those old seabirds were more than worth their salt.

I'll have to take your word for that, since I can't tell many just by sight. It was also years ago that I was there. Sad I really don't know much about airplanes, I just like looking at them, lol.
