Quote
The problems stem from a long-term, collective blind spot in research: atheism itself. This oversight might seem remarkable (or remarkably obtuse on the part of the social scientists) but it is one with deep historical roots. Many of social science's 19th-century founders, including Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx, Émile Durkheim, Auguste Comte and Max Weber, were unbelievers, or "religiously unmusical", as Weber memorably put it. For them, religion was the great explicandum: how, they wondered, could so many people believe in something so absurd? What they failed to recognise was that their own, taken-for-granted, "lack" of belief might itself be amenable to inquiry.

Quote from article:
"If religion comes naturally to us, why are so many people resistant to it?"

My sarcastic parallel:
"If people have the abilities to grow strong muscles through hard work and exercise, why are people resistant to do so?"

And all this time, I thought atheists grew on trees...

Really?  I always thought they were grown in pods like the Unitarians and Mormans.

Mormons grow from pods; Unitarians are actually genetically engineered and highly advanced coffee beans.

Makes sense, but now I wonder where Scientologists come from.  My current hypothesis is that they are really the Lizard People.

Mole People?

They can't be Mole People.  Last time I checked, Mole People are from Earth and have no way to really infiltrate human society.  Now the Mole People are among us in the form of Rosie O'Donnell.  And the Crab People have infiltrated our society disguised as the gay stereotypes we all know and dispise.

And for the sake of fairness: Pagans climbed out of puddles of primortial ooze of pure evil so we can bring about the end of civilization and rule over the masses using crystals that were salvaged from Atlantis.

I think it's the artificial fertilizition that makes atheists. Make love in nature and you'll spawn a Pagan. Wink
