I've organized yet another Black Phoenix party with a few of my friends.  Here are our choices:

http://home.wavecable.com/~yewberry/blackphoenix/

I've promised myself that this time I'll take copious notes and post my reviews on the forum.

Oh, and I just found out they're working on a new series based on Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett's book "Good Omens".  I don't care what it smells like...I must have a big bottle of the Agnes Nutter.  Whoever started me down this delicious and expensive new road (Caroline?), I love/hate you.  Wink

*nodnod*  I need to get me bottles of Delphi and Rose Cross...  And maybe Athens...  Possibly Muse or Veil...  Aaaaaaaaa!

Not to mention trying more yummy imps, of course.  Although next time I'm sticking closer to stuff I know I'll like.  Last time I got adventurous and didn't like the results as well as I'd hoped.   Undecided  But that's not BPAL's fault.  Wink

I've never tried it.  Not a lot of the notes are things I normally like, but I've learned that many BPAL scents are far more than the sum of their parts.  Maybe I'll get it as a Frimp?

Ahem...well I do have around 6 of the Carnival series.  And around 20 imps.  And the special "13".  Oh, and a couple of holiday scents from Halloween.  *hides her head in her hands*

I so love their stuff.  Good Omens, huh?  Gonna have to check that out now...

Oh wow.  I'm ..... man.

if I had spare cash, I'd be tempted to get a bottle of Mr. Ibis.  it looks ... wow.  *sigh*

as far as Belle Epoque, it smells like orange and sandalwood on me.  If you don't like that, you probably won't like it.

I, OTOH, LOOOOOVE it.  and it inspires me creatively. Smiley

(what, that isn't the main reason to get perfume?)

Damnit.  I don't have the card.

I'm thinking Death Cap, and Strangler Fig.  Both sound like they have that earth and lumber smell that I've been thinking I need, but doubting I could find.  One being a little more green smelling by description than the other.

What's the staying power for BPAL?  I'm a rookie.

It seems to vary depending on the scent and on each individual's skin chemistry.  Most of the ones I've tested have lasted several hours, but I've also seen people reviewing them say the same scents faded very quickly for them.  For me, heavier scents involving honey, frankincense, etc. seem to last longer than lighter floral scents, too.

Might want to check out the reviews here for more info on specific scents:

I haven't tried any of that yet. I'd love to, but it is way out of my price range. I figure it's better NOT to get myself hooked on it LOL.

I can't afford it either (at least not most of the time).  But that's why I organize these parties, where several people buy just a few of the Imp's Ears (little sample vials).  That way you can sample a bunch without breaking the bank.  Wink

As Star mentioned, it varies a lot depending on the scents and your body chemistry.  As a big fan of woodsy and resinous scents, I've tried quite a few.  My favorites are Mandrake (mostly cedarwood) and Velvet (mostly sandalwood, cocoa, and myrrh).  Mandrake is lovely, but it doesn't last long on me.  I usually have to reapply it in a couple of hours.  Velvet, mostly because of the sandalwood (I'm guessing), lasts a lot longer on me.  Queen, a free Imp we received with our last order, has a black pepper note that lasts for literally days on me.  Just a drop on my wrist and I can smell it for 48 hours, even after a shower or two.

So, like, it totally depends.  Wink

Can you get Imp's Ears online? I'd like to try several of these, but I'm very sensitive to scents, so I don't want to waste a lot of money on something I can't wear.

You can order imps ears through the site, and people are usually willing to do a lot of swapping, too.

I've got a BUNCH that just either aren't quite what I want or smell weird on me that I'd be happy to part with for something else to try, y'know? Smiley

There's a special page for ordering them, found through the main menu (near the bottom, I think).  The special and limited edition scents tend not to be offered in imps, but most of the standard catalog is.  When you order a set of six (I think it's $20 or $25 after postage/handling) they send you a free imp that they choose, too.  Smiley

The last real "perfume" I got a major hooked on thing for was Thierry Muglers 'Angel'  I was working at a drug store, and would bathe in the tester daily.  Had I had a little more foresight it would have disappeared about the day I quit.  Bad me.  Kind of reminds me of a more subtle, smokier version of JOOP.

I cannot afford the real deal, (75$ for 1.7oz for the perfume) so I get the knock off with next to no staying power and kick it up by mixing it with 'cupcake' from the Jessica Simpson line. (oh dear me, did I just admit that?...  ew.  It was on sale though, and mixed with other scents gives a sweet note... I'm justifying...  spiral!  WOOT!)

Compared to that...  BPAL is actually a GREAT deal.  I'm actually scratching my head over how many neighbors I could freak out by throwing a party.  All the little blond bunny foo foo's in my neighborhood...

I'd do champagne/ strawberry cocktails in those plastic flutes you can get around Halloween with the sparkly spider on them.  They would DIE... lolol
