Just a reminder, in most of the US you need to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight (March 13, 2010) or you will be late in the morning.  DST official starts at 2am on March 14 when it suddenly becomes 3am, but who wants to reset all the clocks in the house at 2 in the morning?

Until a few years ago, the US did not switch until the first Sunday in April. They Congress decided to change it yet again. It was supposed to be an experiment to see if it saved any energy. As I recall, it did not appear to save nearly the energy predicted -- but we are still doing it.

Right, it is saving ****.
But still they cling to it, and it costs loads of money each year to change all the clocks and schedules and so on.

Here in Argentina, we don't even change the time. We did in 2008, after 20 years (more or less) of not changing the time in summer and winter, and people got really mad. Everyone started having problems. I don't know if that's the reason, but the president decided to not change the time again.

I wish that we didn't-it's an absolute pain in the backside!

I don't think they're morons--I know many people have good reasons for wanting it to be light longer in the evening, even if I'd rather hold onto the morning sunshine.  (It was just getting to the point where it was light when I got to work.  So much for that.)  What gets me, though, is that until a few years ago my state didn't do daylight saving time, and...  Maybe it's just because I grew up with that arrangement, but I always thought that was the sensible way to do things.  Changing clocks just throws me way out of whack, every year, both times.

This. The morning is dark again. Lots of saving there.
And when I was little, we didn't do that either.

I think it is stupid to go for the 'it is light longer' because, yeah, that's spring, it is starting to be longer light anyway.
It is only a few weeks, where that effect is really noticeable and for that all the trouble.
Recently I've read that some doctors made a study that the winter (normal) time is much healthier.
Which I believe at once.

No kidding.  I normally get about 5-6 hours of sleep per night, but I got 4 last night.  Then I got up to be at work at 0600 30 miles away to work for 12 hours.

At least I'm coherent now... I think.
