Title: Pacts with the Devil: A Chronicle of Sex, Blasphemy & Liberation
Author(s): S. Jason Black, Christopher S. Hyatt
Publisher: Falcon Press
Publication Date: January 10, 2010
ISBN: 193515026X
ISBN-13: 978-1935150268
Current Price and More Info from Amazon

Description:
For the first time, a genuine manual of the dreaded "left-hand path." Braving the new Witchcraft Panic that has swept the world, S. Jason Black and Christopher S. Hyatt have written a book that places the Western magical tradition --- and the Western psyche --- in perspective.

Sweeping aside both the historical fabrications of "neo-paganism" and the rampant mental illness of the religious right, Black and Hyatt explore history, psychology and anthropology to reveal the true "secret doctrine" of Western culture. This work confronts the reader with his own fears and inhibitions --- and carries him beyond.

Comprehensively illustrated, this volume contains a detailed history of European "Black Magic" and includes new editions of 17th and 18th century Grimoires with detailed instructions for their use. Extensively illustrated.

Wow, that is a pretty vicious and blunt synopsis. That's saying something, because I can be pretty vicious and blunt as well. I guess it takes one to know one.   Tongue

Does the book itself carry this tone, in that it ridicules neo-paganism and the religious right? If so, how does this thing sell?

And I guess the final question, is it an interesting read?

Given that the synopsis says "historical fabrications of 'neo-paganism'," I'd say that it dismisses all of the "Wicca is an ancient religion that has been practiced in secret for centuries and sixty million Wiccans died in the Burning Times" nonsense that some people perpetuate.

I have no idea. The description is usually from a publisher press release or from the back cover. If anyone has read this book, I'd love to know more about it.
