I've seen a lot of really positive responses to these nutters lately.  In our area, we have had the fortune of being graced with the presence of the Phelps clan 3 times in the past year.  Local groups have used this as an opportunity to raise funds for progressive causes and collect supplies for local food pantries.  One of the most creative responses was at a local school.  The parents and other concerned folks got big bolts of fabric and unrolled them in front of the WBC people.  So the Phelps group was there, but no one could see them.
