I have to write a paper on genres and I thought I would use pagan websites, simply because they would be most interesting at a time when I am desperately seeking extra steam to stay afloat in my classes.  For the paper, I will be making comparisons to other sites and discussing things I like about the site, what works, what doesn't, etc.   I won't be mentioning anyone in particular, so no fear about idenity or whatnot, but I wanted to make sure I had permission, so I didn't violate some copyright law or rule before I began.

Any questions, please ask.

I don't see any problem with this. I'd love to see a copy of the final paper, however, It's always interesting to see what someone thinks about TC in comparison to other Pagan sites. All have their strengths and weaknesses what what is a strength and what is a weakness is often in the eye of the beholder.  Shocked

Me, too.  The whole topic of how to effectively moderate online spaces (or for that matter, meatspaces) interests me, and there's more to be learned by drawing comparisons between forums with similar themes/objectives, than from comparing forums-in-general.

If it isn't too long, maybe a possibility for the newsletter?

Wow, ok.  I'll see what I can do.  I believe the final paper is at least three pages long, so it will probably be too long for a newsletter.  Thanks for the replies! Smiley

If you could shorten it and make it into an article style paper, I would submit it.

Unrelated, but I used TC and Witchvox as examples of web design in my night school class. (Last class, tech communications capstone, I graduate in mid-May). There's only 5 other folks in the class, but the ones who commented like the Witchvox site design better than this one, FWIW.

Another possibility would be to break it into shorter parts that could be published in successive newsletters.

Either way, if you're interested in submitting it, let me know.  I can work with you to edit or format for the newsletter  (because I'm the acquisitions editor for the newsletter).

Not surprising, while the Witchvox site is even busier-looking than ours, Witchvox has people with actual artistic talent helping out. I lack artistic talent -- completely. LOL.

Heh... well, the sites do serve two entirely different functions. From a design point of view, I wouldn't want a cluttered message board site. This design is nice and crisp, if a little boring. And Witchvox did have the black background/white text thing going on back in the day.

One person thought the Witchvox site looked warmer than this one. I like blues and cool colors, so I don't see the boards as feeling cold. Then again, this is the same woman who didn't like all the red I used in the design project because red makes her anxious. So design is definitely all subjective, even for technical stuff. Wink

TC is blue for two reasons. First, I like blue. Second, blue is a "calm" color. For a debate and discussion board that does not want flame wars, you want a calm color scheme.

When I was in grade school they replaced the cafeteria floor to pink because that color scheme was supposed to make people less aggressive. They didn't want people fighting.

Maybe the whole site should be pink.

Or Pink and blue, then it would look like a baby shower.

Just kidding. And for the record I don't think the pink floor helped at all.

I'm going on record right now by saying if TC's color scheme becomes pink I'm getting the fuck out of here.  There are just some types of evil that not even I am willing to deal with.
