Many are, but Llewellyn does some subject lines better than others. Foe example, many of their books on ceremonial magic and on astrology are quite good.

I've heard that Llewellyn has gotten worse as it grew; I don't know if that is true or not.

That's somewhat true, I think. They did not publish nearly as many "really bad" books in the 1970s when the number of books they published each year was much lower. I can't speak about before that.

I've noticed in the larger stores that usually have a 'new age' section, the quality and quantity has been deteriorating over the last few years. I rarely buy anything from them but I always check to see what is on the shelves. Much of it is Llewellyn offerings and I have to wonder if they are doing deals with the bookstores to get the most shelf-space. On the other hand, such bookstore chains are always after what sells the most and the newer books on the market seemto be all too often geared at commercially trendy generic Pagan Witchcraft, occult or Neo-Wicca. Target audiences appear to be teenagers and newbie adults mainly who are not going to look for a bibliography or check out the TOC or know enough to check a few topics inside to get the measure of the author's knowledge/biases.

I prefer buying online these days. I can find better quality books, often at a lower cost. Although second hand book stores can yield up some unexpected treasures.
