Paganism and Wicca are definitely not the same thing.  Paganism is an umbrella term that encompasses many very different religions, of which Wicca is one.

Although I don't take pop culture depictions of paganism personally, I do wish they'd to a little research.  Almost every pop culture representation of paganism is negative -- meant to be "Ooooooo, spooky!" rather than "normal."  I doubt if that kind of portrayal does anything to increase tolerance.

Has anyones seen the New Tricks episode Wicca Work from Series 3? That was a better version of Wicca that I've seen on TV, its quite a good episode.

For what purpose humanity is there should not even concern us: why you are there, that you should ask yourself: and if you have no ready answer, then set for yourself goals, high and noble goals, and perish in pursuit of them! I know of no better life purpose than to perish in attempting the great and the impossible...

This isn't the first time they snuck something "pagan" into the show. When it first started (I think during the whole Tritter thing) Wilson told someone House was Wiccan.

Yeah, there've been a couple of references.  The one you're talking about where he comes right out and says that he's Wiccan and then one other that I remember - something about the Winter Solstice.

Now, I personally like the episode of The Mentalist that had that Wiccan plot to it - they found the dead guy in the woods surrounded by candles and pentagrams and the townsfolk suspected the local witch, but it wasn't her at all, but they used her to find the actual killer through some kind of ritual or something...I think that's how it went.

Just got finished watching this.  The Wiccan coven was more or less your standared fluffy all light and goodness type and they were (accidently) involved in the murder of the week.  To tell the truth, I found the B-Plot where Hodgens and Angela were stuck in jail much more interesting.

I actually got to watch this last night-I don't think 'accidentally' is the word that I would have used. Some of the Wiccan references were somewhat iffy, IMO. You are right about the sub plot though-let's hear it for the romantics!

A lot of the history was iffy, too: thanks for reminding me I kept meaning to link to my write-up on that.
