I would expect text-to-speech to have problems with pronunciation there, given that it's probably set up to assume English pronunciation and I know that Gaelic (and Welsh, if applicable) spellings tend not to follow the same rules.

Yes, you're right -- and I hadn't thought about that.

OTOH, I can't pronounce most Old Irish words either, so I guess I can't really complain about anyone/thing else not being able to.  Wink

Quoting my mother Re: Kindle

Thanks also for the tip about where to find info about the text-to-speech feature (enabled or not).  I had looked but couldn't find it.

The lovely irony here is that I'm trying to *read* info about adaptive technology for people who have problems *reading.*   Tongue

Thanks, Shad.  I don't know about the Library of Congress program, so that's something else to look into.

There's a whole world out there I know nothing about.  Yet.  Undecided

And let me know when you have time to read.  Cheesy

Wait until September, when I get my life back. Tongue

Oh, I have books!  Cheesy

I haven't been able to read a book in almost 2 years.  At the time I fell down the stairs, I had just gotten into In Gods We Trust, by Scott Atran.  And I had several books related in some way to ancient Celtic religion stacked up in my to-read pile.  And I've added to that pile since then, in my apparently misplaced optimism.  Then there were all the fiction books, but it should be easier to find audiobooks of those.

Anyway, that's a really nice offer, but I couldn't impose my obscure reading choices on anyone else!  Smiley  If you really feel you'd like to give one a try -- because YOU'RE interested in the subject matter -- drop me a PM or an email, and I'll send you a list of books.  You could pick one and I could send it to you.

But, again, ONLY if you're really interested!

You should see some of the stuff I pick out of the old stacks at the library Cheesy Or some of the stuff my folks have...
Anyhoo, by all means send me a list of books. Fiction too, since I'm coming up on a long summer break with no wheels to throw clay on  Cry Hmmmm..... Do you already have an audio version of Mara Freeman's Kindling the Celtic Spirit? Because I own a copy and we could use the first chapter or so to audition, so to speak Smiley Depending on how fancy you want to get I could do it in segments you can cross reference, like tag the beastiary segments so you can pull them up all at once or by month. Might take a while to set it up that way tho. I am not very audio savvy beyond "talk into microphone" XD

No need to audition!  Sheesh!  Cheesy  You're doing a HUGE favor for me!!!

I don't have any audiobooks of my religion books, and Kindling the Celtic Spirit is one of my faves.  So that would be a great place to start, if you want to read that one.  Are you thinking about an audio file that can be emailed?  Or a CD?  (I'm not sure of the best way to do this.)

My daughter offered to help me put my books onto Library Thing, which I thought would be the easiest way to organize this project.  She'll be finished with classes in a couple of weeks, so we'll probably do it then.  I'll be able to send you a link to my library list so you can see everything I have (which will also be useful in situations where I happen to have a book someone here might want to borrow).  I think there will be a way for me to tag them to indicate the ones I want to try to get in an audio format.  I have some research to do.  Which, of course, takes me a ridiculously long time.  Which is, of course, the whole point.   Undecided

Sound OK?

Maybe a group of audiofiles that can be emailed. Probably be easiest, and if I chop it up into chapters you won't have to hunt for stuff in chapter eleven by fast forwarding through all of it. I have the soundtrack to a movie that way and boy does it suck -.-;; Also, if you want a hard copy back up, you can burn your own CD at leisure and save some shipping costs Wink

Works for me ^_^ now I just need to get my microphone back from my friend.... Cheesy

Sounds perfect.

But finish your semester first!
