I just came across a recent interview with Erynn Rowan Laurie, who is one of the better known practitioners and proponents of Celtic Reconstructionism.  She touches on how CR has developed over the last few decades, ogham and ogham divination, pagans in the military, and her forthcoming book on poetry and madness.

Just thought others might be interested.

Oh, and I thought her take on "squishy polytheism" was interesting -- since it's very close to my own thinking.  Wink

I know there are people out there who say I'm a hard polytheist, though if it's defined as "each and every deity out there is always a separate entity" I can't quite agree. I do think that there are deities out there who are the same deity, like Thor and Thunor, for instance, who really are the same but whose name is being spoken in different languages and whose details are being appreciated from a slightly different angle. Yet that deity is not the same as Odin, nor Yemaya, nor Lug, nor Amaterasu Omikami. That's what I mean by "semi-squishy" polytheism. We're never going to prove anything about the nature of deity by any objective, scientific means, so I can only speak from my experiences of deity and the spirit world when I talk about these things.

I like "squishy polytheism" almost as much as "scrambled polytheism".  Smiley

Or to mix up the food metaphors a bit, maybe "al dente" Cheesy.  I still like the eggs best myself, because I can make the eclectic pun about "poached".

My own UPG - and that's as in, "from my experience of personal interaction," not from, "I had a flash of insight", this being a time when there's merit in differentiating the sorts of UPG - is that, while it's more prudent/functional/polite to treat each deity as separate and distinct unless and until one has evidence to the contrary, they're not necessarily wholly discrete.  Manawyddan is not Manannan (f'ex, the latter has a much stronger "sea god" thing going on), but they're not quite two totally different people, either.  On the other hand, neither of them is at all Llyr/Lir (is Llyr Lir?  No idea, as I've had no contact), nor Dylan, any more than either of them is Freyr or Poseidon.  Complicated, and part of why my polytheism is only medium-hard.

Ooh, I'm glad you linked that - I especially liked the poetry and madness part (and I think I'll be wanting that book), but the whole thing was great.
