I don't imagine they'll take it as a sign.  Irony church is ironic.

Dude, I know exactly where that is. I remember when they put that gaudy looking thing in and I couldn't help but wonder if this was in violation of their own laws on idolatry. Either way, the divine once again shows it has a sense of humor  Grin

I have to admit that I was... glad this happened.  There are reasons though!  The main is that thing really creeped me out whenever I had to make trips to Cleveland or Kentucky.  Something about that statue just weirded me out.

Sad for the church, but still very funny -- especially as "stuck by lightning" is often considered a sign of divine disfavor.

It's a good thing I wasn't a person interviewed for the article. Lord only knows how that would have gone...

"Well, are we really sure that was Jesus? I mean, it looked pretty anglo-saxon for a guy from the middle east, or heaven."

"You'd think humanity would have learned after that Tower of Babel thing."

"If a tornado had sucked it up, no one would have cared. It's all perspective."

"Try building an inflammable and lighting proof one. If the same thing happens, then I'll be impressed."

"Think of how much food for the poor that could have been bought for the cost of that thing."

I would have felt a lot sadder for the church if they hadn't spent a quarter of a million dollars for a big styrofoam Jesus.  Really?  $250,000 and it is made out of styrofoam?  Hmmm.  I wonder if they might be interested in my "holy" bridge?

$250,000 could have been put to a much nobler use.

Aw crap, there I go telling people their good deeds aren't good enough again.  Bad Mel.
