So, the other thread I had here was really for art trades.  I'm going to make this thread about my paintings, and post my art here. Smiley

This is my latest piece... it's Sirona, a Celtic river goddess of healing, rejuvenation, the mysteries of the womb and creation. She's also a river goddess, and her symbols are the snake (a symbol of healing and rebirth), the dog (healing and the lines between life and death), the egg (the womb, creation), grains (fertility), and most important of all, the star.  Her name actually means "star," which though I have found no specific meanings for its symbolism, to me is a sign of hope... a light in the uttermost darkness.

I haven't done a lot of art lately, so I'm a bit rusty, and this piece shows it, I think.

5"x2", watered down acrylics and ink on a thin piece of wood.

I do, I do, depending on what you want, of course. Sometimes things don't inspire me, and rather than painting something that will turn out like crap because I don't want to do it, I just... don't do it. You can PM me, if you'd like.

I don't mind. Smiley

Only, it's not so simple... er...

A lot of the paints I use aren't named traditional things, like Cadmium Red. They unfortunately have names like "Midnight Blue", or whatever, and I tend to use a LOT of colors for skin. The best I can do is this: there are a few basic peachy colors I used, working from very light first to darker shading. There's a bit of very watered down red, a bit of the same blue I used in the background toward the top, a little purple, and some bubblegum pinks.

You know, looking at this a little more closely makes me realize how much detail has been LOST in the scan. GAAAAAAAAAAH.  The egg, for instance, has at least four different colors going on in it, and you can't see them at all in the scan. *flails*

Interesting way of making skin Smiley Thanks for explaining ^^ When I do it, I tend to stay in the browns. Looking at a lot of tutorials online has taught me that other colors that don't relate to the base color, such as purples and blues.

Pity about the colors, but those scanners tend to ruin everyone's art, including mine x'D

Here's a little altar art someone here (Ali) commissioned. It's of Brigid, originally an Indo-European goddess, also known as Bride in Scotland, Brigandu in France, Ffaid in Wales, and Brigitania in England... and then stolen away by the Christians to be made into saint because the pagans loved her so much they wouldn't let go of her.

At least she stayed a female, unlike Sequana, who got turned into a male saint. Poo.

Anyway, this one is small, like the Sirona one above... 5"x2" on a thin slice of wood.

Just wow. Shocked Apollo looks fantastic, and I lovelovelove Epona's horse too. I'm in constant awe of your work, I have to say. Grin

I might just have to ask about commissions in the near future...

Thank you thank you. Still waiting to hear about the Apollo one. I am excited about Epona. (Though I did have to drag out my horse photo books to get the foal's head  even NEAR looking like a horse and not a disfigured dog). Thank you.

My wee altar art commissions are extremely cheap-- little 3"x5" are only $15.
