Everyone is different and does things a different way, but personally I started out by just praying to him during meditation, just as I would any other Deity. Please bear in mind though that I have been praying to Hades for over 20 years-these days I can just talk to him whenever I want to. Doesn't mean that he will always answer me right away though!  Wink He always has answered me eventually, He has never ignored me.

That's really cool that you've been with him for that long! Would you mind sharing more about your experiences?

Not at all, but you may have to be a bit more specific about what it is that you want to know about....

For starters, what's he like? What drew you to him in the first place?

He is amazing. I've been interested in Greek Deities ever since I was a very small child, and I was always reading about them. Hades was always my favourite, but I thought that he was reallt misrepresented in a lot of ways. My parents took me to Crete when I was 14 and took me around lots of old temples and the rest of the touristy bit. When I was in Heraklion, I felt something like a hand on my shoulder, even though nobody was near me and a warm, gentle voice said in my ear 'I believe that you have been looking for Me...' and that's where it all started.

He is kind, gentle, compassionate and generally wonderful, but as with most Deities, He can be terrible when He is angry. I love Him.

He isn't really a god that was worshiped by mortals, and the ancients always used euphemisms for his name (like "King of the Underworld", or an alternative name like Pluto), because to invoke his name was to invoke death, which most people did not want to do.

However, if you want to worship him, that's your business. Typically, to address an underworld god, a person stands with their arms stretching down towards the ground, with palms also facing down. You could invoke him using his titles, like God of the Underworld, Host of Many, Receiver of the Dead, Giver of wealth. Offerings to him should be buried rather than burned, and if you offer him a libation, pour out the entire liquid (for heavenly deities you pour some for them and drink some yourself, but for cthonic deities you pour all the liquid out for them). I hope that helps.
