Because I don't already have enough on my plate (yeah, right), I decided one day to start a local community website, the community being people with roof gardens in the Manhattan neighborhood known as the East Village, where I live and tend my own roof garden. Well, it took over a year, but East Village Roof Gardens finally went live today. You can see pics of my garden there--the only garden on the website at the moment (under the alias "Under the Sky" Garden), but I'm working on others.

Check it out at www.EVRGreen.org and let me know what you think.

You have a beautiful garden!! Cheesy I am jealous. Smiley

I like your website, simple, colorful, easy to explore.  The only thing that I saw that might cause some problem is your type, example the "Please e-mail your tips, resources, links".  It's a little on the small side, you might consider going up a size, just to make it easier to read for some of your audience.  Smiley  Hoping that's what you are looking for, if I overstepped, sorry. Smiley

No overstepping at all; I appreciate the feedback. I actually was thinking the same thing myself--that the type gets a bit small--so it's good to have that seconded.

And thanks for the garden praise! It's been no small task keeping everything green in the face of these multiple heatwaves.

Okay, I'll say it once and forget it. I hate splash pages. I always have and I always will. Smiley

Not that that is out of the way, I really like the rest of the site. Pictures of your garden always amaze me. It's hard to believe it's on a rooftop in Manhattan. I can wait until you can get pictures of more gardens up.

I can only imagine how much work you've had this summer.

Both the garden and the website look great!

Yeah, it does add that annoying extra click. But the animation the web designer did is so lovely, I'm not complaining.

Thanks! I can't wait to get more pics either. Half the reason why I started the site was so that I could see what other people are doing with their gardens. From street level, there's little way to know what's up there.

My mom was telling me, about a week ago, about a news segment she was watching.  Unfortunately I can't remember what city this was being done in but what they were doing was encouraging people to create rooftop gardens.  There have been studies that show that it will/should lower the temps in the cities thus reducing electricity usage. (Less A/C)  There was a suggestion about it might also help with smog.  I wish I could remember what city was doing this, it's a fairly large one.  Need to go google. Smiley

Your garden is amazing - I hope to someday visit it in person!

The website is good, too.  I agree with Dragonfly_high about the font size, though it didn't give me as much trouble as it could have; the contrast between text and background is at a really good level, which helps a lot (dark green for the text is an excellent choice - suits the site theme really well, and isn't glaring on the white background, but is sharp enough for reading ease).  And to my relief, the splash page didn't crash my browser, it just said I couldn't see it unless I upgraded my Flash (I have a fair bit of trouble with "Flash crash", and from what I've heard I suspect an upgrade wouldn't be helpful).

You'd be very welcome! Thanks for the praise, of both the garden and the site--and for the useful feedback.
