I've been wanting to post a link to this site ever since I read about it a week or so ago. However, I never got the damned site to load any time I tried it. Today I apparently held my tongue right and the site loaded. I won't comment on this site nor whether or not it's needed.

From the start page:

Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American.

Because Wikipedia was liberal?  I really sometimes wonder at the victim mentality.  I mean, I don't see any other groups with an actual claim to persecution setting up their own wikipedia alternatives.

OK maybe I am way off track here but doesn't C.E. and B.C.E. mean Christian Era and Before Christian Era?   If I am correct in my assumption then there really isn't a difference here is there?

I think the C stands for "common", not "Christian".  Smiley

I saw that their posting rules are called "commandments" and one of them is to use American spellings when at all possible.

What a bunch of jackasses these people are.

I don't get it either. From what I've been reading, essentially this site was set up so the people who are offended by Wikipedia can have their own facts to back up their "arguments."

Course, we won't talk about how that is one reason I don't like Wikipedia anyway.

Just for curiosity I did a Conservapedia search on 'homosexuality.'  It wasn't particularly offensive, just mildly conservative, with *minimal* awareness of some issues.  But they seemed woefully ignorant of chunks of research.  They were right in there being an environmental factor, but studies seem to show that there's probably about  50% genetic factor, which they denied.

However, they did have relevant points about the tacts taken in debate, so while I'd never use this resource, it at least isn't *all* bad.

Still pretty unusable though for most things. Smiley

I suspect this is one site that will get worse as time goes on and entries are added to and changed. I have to wonder how useful it's going to be, though, if the site crashes and stays down like it has for the last week.

As Star said, it's "Common Era" and "Before Common Era."  However, these terms aren't used to be anti-Christian, but to be religion neutral.  Opps, I forgot, to most of the Christian Right in the US, anything not strongly pro-(fundie)-Christian is anti-Christian.

Commandments I don't like.

Using a single countries spelling when at all possible seems a fairly reasonable request.  Of course their reason for doing so is not likely easy of use and consistancy but political.

Peter,

Not sure how political it is, but I believe they say that repeated non-American spellings will get the user locked out of making changes. I'd have to go back and see. That request, in and of itself, probably wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't know the reason for it was xenophobia.
