Thanks for posting this, Lyric!

I live about 15 minutes away from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  I think we'll be heading over there tomorrow evening.   Cheesy

Sometimes I really wish I'd see these things earlier. This was the first I'd heard of it.

Great! It's the end-of-summer bonfire at a friend's house tonight, and his back yard has a wonderful clear view. Some mead, a bonfire, blankets, and (if the skies are clear) moon-gazing. I'm in.

Crystal clear skies here in NYC tonight. I was admiring the moon on my way home; now I know I was part of an event!

It is definitely lovely tonight! Smiley

I'm sitting by my window sculpting for my Mabon altar- but I pretty much gaze at the moon every time she's out!

I live about 15 minutes away from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  I think we'll be heading over there tomorrow evening.   Cheesy

And we had a great time!

We went to Goddard this evening, and it was a lot of fun.  They had a bunch of telescopes set up, and the weather was perfect.  We had a fantastic view of the moon -- it was a large enough telescope that the shape of the mountains were sharp and clear.  Another telescope was set up for Jupiter.  We could see the planet (including some of the color banding) and 4 of its moons all lined up in a row.  AND Uranus was also visible in the same telescope!  Very cool.

There were some activities for kids, and they were giving away Moon Pie.  Grin

Oh, and we heard two speakers, one talking about the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and some new discoveries about the moon and the other about work being done to research technology for future moon missions (that one was with the NASA Desert RATS project).

Lots of fun.  Cheesy

That sounds wonderful. You're so lucky to live that close!

The skies here were cloudy, until the moon cleared the ring of pine trees around our friend's yard. The clouds parted and stayed away until the moon crossed the clearing and touched the pines on the other side--then they moved back into place, just like the curtains on a stage.

A very big, deep dark blue-black stage.
