Thanks for the tip!  Any pointers on where to find reliable info?

She's mentioned in Pinch's Egyptian Mythology and on some random sites around the Interwebs.  There's not that much out there about her, but then she's an older goddess.  It is thought that her cult eventually turned to worshiping Bast.

Oh, yeah!

Just for the record, the mama -- whose name is now Lily -- showed up in our driveway already pregnant and with two older kittens in tow.  We took them in because we're suckers. Cheesy   They're all now indoor cats.  The older male kitten, Sasha, will be neutered first as soon as the vet says he's old enough, to prevent any more pregnancies.  Then we'll get his sister, Lana, and mama Lily spayed as soon as we can afford to.

As for the 5 kittens...  We're still deciding what to do about them.  We KNOW we need to find homes for them.  Sixteen cats is too many even for a large-ish house.  But we're all already completely in love with them.  Like I said, suckers.

Don't worry, though, if we do keep them, they will be neutered/spayed.  Boys first, probably, both to prevent any accidents and because they're cheaper.  And to keep them from starting to spray and getting aggressive.

The operations will probably be my anniversary and Christmas gift.  Undecided

Yeah, we've always been careful about spaying and neutering.  Which hasn't prevented us from having to raise 3 litters of kittens, thanks to stray mamas who decide to let us help them raise their babies.

gah, that's a lot of cats! Hooray for you for taking them all in. Hope you can find low cost spay and neutering around the area. heehee.

Lots of vets will do it at cost or for free.  Ours does, esp. for strays or ferals.

Around our area, we've got a mobile vet that does it very low cost, and a few clinics specifically set up to do low cost.
Some vets, if you prove you're low-income, will do what you were mentioning... but not as many HERE as we would like. Sad

Yeah, we were able to tap into a program the local humane society ran when this sort of thing happened to us before. Twice.  Roll Eyes

I have to do the research.

Besides Bast, what deities are associated with cats?  Which ones are particularly interested in supporting the care of cats, stray and otherwise?

Does anyone here have any cat-centered deity relationships?  How would you describe it?

She may be outside your intended theological sphere, but Saint Gertrude of Nivelles is the patron saint of cats.

Thessaly: Did she answer you?
Foxglove: Well, it felt good at the time. Empowering.
Thessaly: Hmph.

Saint Gertrude of Nivelles

Here's a good site for her, in fact.

I feel that cat is a spirit in and of itself like in the native american totem system.

I agree. I've always had a great fondness for cats and though I keep a few statues of Bast, I've never felt her (or anyone blast it!) call to me or felt a connection with her or any other cat goddesses, but have always just worshipped cats themselves kinda.
