(Didn't see this coming, but I'm not really surprised considering the year she's had.)

Jackson retires Rachel Alexandra

Jess Jackson retired 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra on Tuesday, a day after she breezed a bullet four furlongs at Saratoga Race Course. Jackson said the four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly would be bred to his two-time Horse of the Year Curlin.

Sounds like retirement was the right choice; if they had tried to push her to equal her 3-yr-old season, they might have broken her down. As it is, she retires to broodmare status...

Can you =imagine= the price they can ask for her foal by Curlin???   I'll bet the bidding has already started!

I just hope she doesn't go down the same road as Genuine Risk, et al. It seems so many of these super racing fillies have trouble getting pregnant.
