It looks like there may be a fast and affordable high tech fix for global warming after all -- and although the scientists involved want to study it more it does not appear to have many negative side effects. The most negative immediately seen is that it is a very fast effect -- it could lower temperatures to 1900 levels in a decade at an initial cost of about 100 million current US dollars. It would require maintenance, however, so there would be an ongoing cost.

Solar shield could be quick fix for global warming

hmm...I wonder if this would drastically change the climate of the rainforests..(or anywhere else..)

near the end of the article it mentioned something about the tropics, and how they would receive less rainfall in the absence of the greenhouse effect. I'm not very knowledgable on this topic, but I  lived along the equator and almost all of the plant life, at least, were plants that thrived in humidity and the temperature was pretty much always the same with very minor changes in highs and lows and lots of rain......so I would think that any major changes in that wouldn't be too great of a thing

But that is an interesting "quick fix" ....but unsure of my feelings about it since I don't know much about the topic  Tongue

The article wasn't clear on whether they meant this shield would mean the topics would get less rain or just not the more rain they would likely get with global warming. The first might be a problem, the second much less so.

I found it interesting that they were apparently looking for negatives effects and could not find any that outweighed the negative effects of allowing the ice caps to melt. More study is definitely needed, however.
