I've done slugs before - very gross.  But the worst was when I had a mother cat teaching her kittens to hunt by bringing in these tiny baby mice.  They apparently lost one and I found it about 3 am on my way to the bathroom.  Barefoot.  I stepped on the skull and it popped.  It seemed so loud for the size.  I bleached my foot.

Cry I would probably have keened for about six hours solid. Maybe six days, if my voice held out...

Yuck!  How long ago?  Have you stopped freaking out?

Few years ago. I stopped freaking out fairly quickly. The roach skittering over bare toes took a tad bit longer, I'm afraid.

So, we're into our routine autumn stink bug invasion.  They're trying to get into the house, and I'm trying to vacuum them up as quickly as possible and return them to the great outdoors.  I don't like them much, but they've never injured me personally...until today.

EEEK!!  I would have thrown up if I squashed a stink bug with my bare hands.  Poor you!!!  Shocked

When I vacuum them up, they seem to stink up my vacuum cleaner.  What I do now is squirt dish detergent into an old plastic cup, make soapy water, and knock the bugs into the cup.  They can't swim or crawl out of the soap suds.  Then quickly dump into the toilet and flush away!  They make the soapy water pretty stinky, so it's not something you wanna leave sitting around.

That's a fantastic idea, actually.  As we clean them up, I think I'll have a cup of soapy water handy.

I knew someone who claimed that when she was living in Arizona they were always getting big (really big - I saw one in my yard in WA that was 6 inches across the legs - her's were bigger) wolf spiders.  One night she went to the bathroom, and not turning the light on sat on the toilet.  She felt something and so reached for the light - a large wolf spider was in the toilet trying to get out....  This is hearsay and I didn't know her real well, but she didn't seem the type to make stories up for effect either.

I remember using the toilet as a kid, looking down, and screaming at the snake at my feet....

And underwear drawers. That's where my sister found a snake of her own.

My daughter found a mouse in hers - then she found the cat and introduced them.

And the pockets of clothing you are wearing at the time.

No, I'm not over it yet.  *whines*

Also, if you can, seal the cracks around your windows and doors as best as you can.  One frustrating day when I had about a dozen stinkbugs in the house, I watched one crawl right in through the top of the front door.  Turns out the weatherstripping had shifted and the door wasn't sealing shut.  Now that we put new weatherstripping there, I find about 2 or 3 in the house each day... still aggravating but better than a dozen!!
