It makes me wonder if fewer people know how to read. LOL

Aha! I think you've just found the heart of the problem.   Cheesy

This has been niggling me all along.

I disagree about that rosy image.  There certainly are books that address the problems of unhealthy group dynamics that can occur in covens.  Judy Harrow's Wicca Covens addresses the ins and outs of coven operation almost entirely from the standpoint of group dynamics, because that's her professional field.  It includes personal anecdotes about coven life from a wide selection of interviewees, some of which speak of bad experiences, as well as hypothetical examples of the way things can foul up.  Amber K's Covencraft also has many examples, both hypothetical and true-life, of unhealthy coven situations.

One of the things a writer should do, is be familiar with what has already been published in hir field.  I'd love to give you the benefit of the doubt on that, since you've shown that you do know many of "the things a writer should know", but either you don't know that one, or you haven't applied it very well.  If you had, you'd be aware of books like those I mentioned, and wouldn't be talking about that "rosy image" as if non-rosy images didn't exist.

Sunflower

I was not aware of Judy Harrow's book, and I am going to take a look at it - thank you for mentioning this.  Ultimately, I decided it would be best not to post any longer on this thread, but I did want to acknowledge this post.  For me, this forum has been a little bit like a Democrat getting initiated on Republican talk radio...I'll be stinging for the next month.  I'm sure you're all lovely and dedicated witches, pagans, and reconstructionists in person though.

Lovely, dedicated, and strongly opinionated. Shocked
