I have a B.O.S. that is almost entirely useless to me. I don't need it for anything and I don't foresee myself using anything in it. What the hell do I do with it? I can't let it just take up space in my cabinets because I need that space for my incense blends, herbs, and various offering plates. So... uh... what do you do with a defunct B.O.S.?

Good question. I think that would depend on the Wiccan tradition one is involved in. Personally, I'd store it away as I might want to reference it years down the road if only to compare me then with me now.

I like the storing it away idea very much, as it is true that you don't know when you might need it! You could also:
  • use it as a dream journal
  • use it for writing down just ingredients and uses and have a seperate one solely for spells.
  • use it as an art book
  • use it for developing automatic writing skills
  • BURN IT and cackle madly to appease the Witch in you Smiley

Take care,

When do you feel that a BOS isn't useful to you anymore? Is it because you're on a different path, or the material inside isn't relevant or interesting?

I have only ever discarded one. I discarded it due to me no longing believing in most of its contents as i divulged onto a whole different path. I did kinda regret it however when i had to look up some of its material  Roll Eyes

I'm on a different path and most of what is inside of it is no longer relevant. (I say most because I started toward a bend of things like the 42 Laws of Ma'at toward the end, but it's still not overly compatible with my current path.)

I would suggest storing it someplace safe. Even if it's not your path anymore, it's still a snapshot of who you were spiritually at the time you wrote it. I'm also guessing that even if your path has diverged significantly, there would still be parts of your BOS that resonate with you for whatever reason. Never know when that sort of stuff might be helpful in the future.

To me, it would be like throwing away a journal just because it is full.  I suggest saving it.  You can always destroy it later, but it is really hard reassembling ashes.

I guess you could say I'm not particularly close with my old journals. I've moved around a lot over the years and I've had to say good-bye to a lot of cherished things. My journals, my books... I've had to leave behind so many different parts of me in the last five years that I hardly have any of my precious memories from high school any longer. The only things I've managed to drag with me has been every ounce of writing I have ever done in the entirely of my life and the notes my High School BFF and I used to pass back and forth.

So, honestly? At this juncture in my life, I don't really keep my old journals.
