I think I'm finally hitting (the beginning of) my groove with Tarot.  I have had two decks, one of which is my favorite and I've been using that deck regularly, almost every day.  In the last 2-3 weeks, I have felt a shift, especially noticeable in my hands.

As I shuffle the cards, my hands often start tingling and/or burning, heat coming out of the palms.  When I lay out the cards to select, I can shut my eyes, run my palm slowly over the spread deck, and the heat jumps out from my palm to the card I should select.  The readings have gotten freakily accurate since this has happened, to the point where sometimes I bust up laughing because it's so...yeah...exactly exactly right.

The deck this has happened on is my favorite one (right now) [the Osho Zen Tarot], so after this crazy hand thing began happening, I got curious.  I have recently picked up some more decks, so that I could see if it's just because this deck and I have been working together for a while, hence the shift in power and accuracy with it, or if it's something that shifted *inside* of me and will now work on any deck.

I was hoping for the latter (because I'm an American, and, hey, we want "fast and easy" results! -groan-), but the first deck I brought home since that time (a couple days ago)...didn't really work all that well for me.   My hands began burning as I shuffled the deck, yes, but the readings haven't been nearly as powerful... It feels like the potential is there, but that time with the deck is needed to grow it.

A few more decks are coming in the mail...I'm looking forward to working with them, but now am beginning to realize that the strong reaction to the Osho deck is probably from working with it, and that it's going to take some work and connection with the other decks as well, before any powerful results start showing up.

Anyways, I'm new to Tarot, and so wanted to share my experience and hear some thoughts and feedback, because my guess is that the burning hands experience is probably pretty common, as is the time spent with the deck helping to bring out more power and clarity with that deck's readings.

FYI, I grew up being taught that things like Tarot were evil (though we fundamentalist christians sure had our means of divination---though we never called it that, of course---like our Oswald Chambers devotional for the day [the horoscope], or opening the Bible and letting our finger fall to a verse, etc, lol)...  I am LOVING Tarot so much, and am so delighted at how intriguing and amazing it is.  I sense a long and happy relationship between the cards and myself.  Smiley

I've had very, very similar experiences with my own decks! I practice with two--one Renaissance and one Rider-Waite--and my hands do much of the same "talking" to the cards via tingly heat thingie-things. I've worked with the Rider-Waite for years; recently this year I bought the Renaissance deck. When I first touched the cards, they were burning! I waited until I got a guide book for them, and since I've gotten it, I've been drawing quick, excellent results. I think this deck responds to me much better than the Rider-Waite.

I think it's all a matter of what works best for you personally, but I'm tickled to know that someone else feels out the Tarot in the same way I do! Ahhh. Small world.

That's really cool!  So, would you say it's not necessarily normal to have the burning/hot hands with Tarot?  It sounds like there are many different ways that the cards respond to a person, from what you wrote.  That's interesting to note!  Thanks for the thoughts.

Yes, my latest deck, my hands were burning as I shuffled---very excited feeling.  Yet the cards themselves (it's a new deck called The Fifth Element...maybe it will grow on me) are not at all my favorite...and the first few readings with that deck were okay, but not amazing or anything.  I'm going to keep working with the deck for a little bit and see if it ends up getting better or not.  Maybe each deck takes some time.

Anyways, thanks so much for sharing.  It's neat to know that the heat waves coming off of my hands are shared by at least one other.  The first time it happened, I was taken aback, but now I'm starting to expect it...  Smiley  Fun.  It'd be interesting to know some of the other varieties besides burning hands that a "connection to Tarot" is experienced.

I think your last sentence said it...oh hang on

I am LOVING Tarot so much, and am so delighted at how intriguing and amazing it is.  I sense a long and happy relationship between the cards and myself.  Smiley

It seems like you have a very close relationship to these cards, so I'm thinking that you are feeling this connection through the heat...like the cards are speaking to you.  I've always understood that this warmth indicates that the cards are "ready" for dealing or to be picked.

Someone who knows more can explain furthur, but this is my understanding of your situation.

I would say that it is probably normal for people to feel a sort of burning/tingly sensation; after all, energy can be felt simply by rubbing your palms briskly together, then holding them slightly apart. I'd say it just is common amongst people who have a closer-than-normal connection with their hands/sense of touch, maybe. But that's just my own silly opinion. And I myself don't know how other people read their decks. Everyone is different.

My roommate, on this note, also experiences a burning hand. The Princess of Wands of the Thoth deck is a particularly hot card.

I don't have burning, but more of a warming sensation that comes and stays.  Sometimes it goes up my arms and a spot on my forehead seems to come alive.  Since I've begun doing the pagan thing and reading more about chakras and things like that I've learned that is the 'third eye'.  But I do definitely get the warmth in my hands and some cards seem warmer than others after I've asked my question.  Interesting that others can have the same sensations.  I always just thought of it as my intuition helping me out.  hehe
