Zenyatta retires

As the Horse of the Year debate rages on, the debate over Zenyatta’s legacy in the annals of the Turf can begin after Jerry and Ann Moss officially retired their multiple champion Zenyatta on Wednesday following a distinct career that included 19 straight wins and the first-ever victory by a female in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).

Zenyatta retires

Not surprising. I had been expecting them to make this official.

I think there was some initial reluctance on the part of the owners, but good sense prevailed. At six, and with what she's done, it's time to call it a day. It's been a fantastic run for her, but I think it's time she goes and becomes a mom. I just hope she has better luck as a dam than some of the other great fillies and mares.

I'm glad it did. I just wish she would have won her last race.

I do, too, but isn't it funny that the new unbeaten record now belongs to two mares. Smiley

I think that's great. The mares are often overlooked in horse racing. They shouldn't be.
