I've had the odd, er, discussion with people who thought they had some insight on spelling or pronunciation greater than being born with the damn name and knowing its history!  Not often, though - OTOH, mine is actually quite straightforward and the only reason I can see why anyone has trouble with it is that they have some kind of internal preconceptions that cause them to want to add sounds (if they're looking at it written and trying to pronounce it) or letters (if they're hearing it and trying to write it down).  My dad usually doesn't even say it anymore, just starts spelling, because once people've heard it, the preconceptions kick in.

I routinely have people pluralizing me.  Woods.

Now, both Wood and Woods are common enough last names.  Either exists.  but damn it, there's only one of me and you should be grateful I'm not plural!

ahem.

I really hate getting pluralized.  can you tell? Cheesy
