Has anyone suffered consequences by mixing traditional techniques? Has anyone not quite worded a spell right and had it turn on them?Have you or someone you know messed with or mixed magic that should not have? I know there are somethings that might have certain side effects. Since eclectics and chaotes experiment the most, I figured I would post this here. The purpose of this thread is to discuss consequences and negative reactions to magic not done properly or just wierd consequences to well put together spells.
Any stories, experiences and musings related to the topic are appreciated.  Thanks!

The worst thing that's ever happened with a spell for me is that it just hasn't worked. I'm about as ridiculously eclectic as possible - I follow a few defined religious paths, but as for magical, I pluck from everywhere as I see fit. Smiley The closest thing I have to backfires is that I tend to mismanage energy like whoa. I have a hard time sensing and raising it (meaning I like my spells to be the set-it-and-forget-it variety), and often when I do tap into it, I "overdose" and end up either super high or super depressed. I don't think that comes from mixing techniques, just from having a hard time with energy. Smiley

Same here! That's the worst party of my experiences so far, is not knowing what my limits are (or if there are any set limits that do exist). One of the advantages of following a traditional route, I imagine, is that there are set standards on such things. Forging your own path can be quite tiresome, and possibly perilous.

That said, one way isn't better than the other. Just different. However, I can see possible conflicts arising other than energy related, if the practitioner is not careful.

Thank you for starting this thread, because I'm curious to see what other posters have to say on this!   Smiley

Aye, I think most of the problems with magic is simply having it get out of hand energy wise. But you won't summon a big fiery vortex if you mispronounce a word!  Grin

Another thing is that, in chaos magic you can make up gibberish for a spell or ritual and if you REALLY believe in it, it will usually work, or at least that's the theory behind chaotic magic.

As for the OP's response, I haven't really had any blatant backfires or anything. But I truthfully don't really mess with magic all that often. I tend to be an armchair magician, (or witch lol). I know, I am bad.

Nope! But if you run a major ritual and don't properly ground afterwards, you will feel a little loopy for a few hours. Grin

I haven't read into it for a few years, but one of the things that originally drew me to chaos magic was the idea that belief is just as important a tool as anything else. I'm a big fan of (part of) reality being shaped by subjectivity, and if I feel something is real, or true, then for me it is, and I act on it.

Me too! That's been changing recently, but I'm super lazy and lax about practicing, heh.

I "overdose" and end up either super high or super depressed. I don't think that comes from mixing techniques, just from having a hard time with energy. Smiley

The first time I did my own hand written ceremony, I raised the energy more than I could handle and then I could not ground it properly. It took me a week to recover from the side effects(jittery, insomnia, lack of hunger, the jitteryness taking the longest) and ground the energies that chose to hang around.

Another reason why I was asking is some people I used to study with were always talking about how mixing enrgies and traditions could have serious effects. I find that if I research it enough and try in small doses at first I don't have any harm come to me.

With the mispronouncing words, that was something I was wondering about because I have heard that if you mispronounce a word it will have an entirely different effect. I have also heard that it is the intent behind the words that matters.

I have also had spells work out in ways that I did not quite expect, but still accomplished what I asked for.

I was told that depending on what your spell has to get through, It could manifest in different ways or not at all.

God, I hope not. Else my British friends and I could never work on a spell together. Smiley

I am more inclined to believe that it is the intent behind the word that makes the difference. I only think it realy matters if the spell you are working is specifically designed for the correct pronounciation of words, almost like a pass word.

Any body have spells the ast that did not quite turn out as expected? Like you got what you asked for, just in a way you had not thought of.

Yes of course - one memorable one was intended to help when I was particularly busy at work but short of energy and motivation to tackle it. Unfortunately for me I was a bit sloppy in my wording and failed to specify EXACTLY what I needed to accomplish. About 10 minutes after I set the working in motion the first phone call arrived ....  Every project I had, even those which had been inactive for months, suddenly required my input.

Obviously I realised pretty quickly what I had done but decided that trying to correct matters would probably only make things worse. I finished the day with even more work than I had started with.

I have had situations simular to that. With mine I was at work and it was slow. I was bored so I did a spell to attract customers, not specifically worded . I ended up working a double with the restraunt filled the entire time. I cured my boredom but killed my feet. I honestly did not expect my spell to attrat that many customers on a tuesday night! It was like a friday night in there!

Thanks for sharing.

I love this thread.

I tend to add more insurance in my spell wording now. I cast a potent spell to attract business opportunities and a home for my son. Looking back now I realize that I should have included more elements of water in the spell and less fire. It worked really fast, maybe too fast. He got a business and big clients right off, but the clients had no follow through and ended up wasting his time. He got the aprtment, a beautiful one, but his new room mate turned out to be a little crazy.

Although my son learned some valuable life lessons. I think the execution of the spell might have been more balanced and blessed if I had a better balance of elements and long term oriented wording.

Side note: I cast the spell at his request and with his full permission.

The balancing of the elements is even tricker than the wording. add that in with all the other energies a spell may need and you got a puzzel indeed.

Luckly for me alot of my oopses have been while I was doing controled energetic experiments.  I find when I take it out of trial and do it on a real run I have to make some ajustments.

The technique manipulates the energy too so there is so much to consider with spell work.

No joke! I have learned from trail and error that I should do banishing spells during my moon time and spells that create when I am not menstruating. Maybe wizards don't have that problem?

Anyhoo, New moon tonight but I'll wait till a full one to do a spell for remodeling success.

I have also noticed that moon time effects how my spells come out. My moon time is aligned with the moon so I bleed starting the new moon and am fertile during the full moon.

I have noticed that when I am in sync with the natural forces arround me the spells are more effective as well.

It took me some trial and error to figure out how much this effected my spell casting.

I have also found that my coorespondences change or alter depending on what spell work I am doing to get the best result.

I have also had several misadventures with mixing spells.
