I have been in situatios where doing these things would attract a bunch of unwanted attention. In those cases I do them steathly so I can still get them done without the mess.

Does anyone else do religious, spiritual, or magical practices on the sly? How do you do them without drawing a lot of attention to yourself.

I'm talking about this stuff in big crowds or public places.

Thanks

I used to cast circles on public beaches and do rituals of sorts in them. In order to remain relatively inconspicuous I used to use no tools or anything. I figured that I had the sun for fire sand for earth the sea for water and the wind for air which was all I needed. To avoid attention I was careful about how I moved and muttered under my breath or just talked in my head. I probably looked a bit strange but nobody ever said anything and that was good enough for me.

Now I just do energy work if anything and I can do that without any visible signs if my focus is good enough. I probably get a vacant expression on my face though.

Your stealth rituals at the beach must have looked beautiful from an energetic point of veiw. I liked going to the park where there was a creek and doing the same thing. Once I got asked what I was doing and I answered"enjoying nature from different points of veiw". Then the woman went off a little way and watched me.

She started mimicing what I was doing. I ignored her then after I was finished she walked up and said"you were right it does look different depending on where you stand and what you are thinking". I just laughed, sometimes when I would go back to the park that woman wold be there observing nature, sometimes she would write poetry and read it to me.

I do energy work too , especialy shielding and no one seems the wiser.

When I feel like I need to hide from people (wonderful in retail) I do this shield like thing.  Basically I "see" myself turning into fog, and then work on making the fog more and more transparent, and as a final touch, I "grab" the energy around me and draw it into my fog bubble thing.  Just a warning though, be prepared for people to run into you, almost run over you, and forgetting that you were there if you talk to them.

That's cool. Do you do ceremony or spells in public when in that mode? Does it effect communication with spirits?

I do something like that as well, I picture sage smugde smoke covering the outside of my aura and the I put silver and crysaline energy with it to turn is into a mirror. It mirrors the enviorment aroound me and reflects to the Earth negative energies that need to be transmuted.

I don't use it often, unlless I am realy in need of protection and being unnoticed.

I do something like that.  I chant (in my head or quietly, depending on where I am) "You don't see me, I'm invisible."  Or something to that effect.  And picture myself invisible and no one seeing me.  People moving around me and their eyes missing me.

Not usually, unless it is something that I need right at that moment.

I've actually crafted mental tools while in a meditative state. I can visualize and use them the same way I use my material tools. The one I use most often is a cloak for shielding. I literally feel the weight of it settling on my body, and tie it closed and pull up the hood, and it provides good safety shielding for city walking at night or any time I feel overwhelmed.

I start looking blank and idly tapping my fingers (well it starts off idle - the more purposeful my fingers, the blanker I look) or otherwise fidget. It helps to have a prop to play with, like pen and paper - you can get away with mouthing or drawing things more easily, as long as you maintain a brainstorming expression.

ETA: The type of 'camouflage' you use depends on your environment too. Since I'm a student in a mostly student town I do absentminded studenty things.

Thank you all the posts have been wonderfull so far.

I allso have energetic tools that I can pull up if need be, like my athame for casting a circle.

the brainstorming expression does work in a sudent enviorment or even in a more public place if you have the right props, I use it when doing stealth energy work on myself or the enviorment, to avoid people asking me if I am ok.

LOL!! Hmm.... paper therapy... I should try that. Might save those 20-somethings who spend the entire class time discussing the people they are sleeping with (which seems to change each weekend).  Roll Eyes

As to the OP, I really don't do much in the way of rituals/spells anymore. The ones that I do observe are in my own home. The most I do anymore is shield before I leave the house, saving both myself and the above mentioned kids.

I once wrote out an entire ceremony, just on paper and I energetically did each action then burned it in a fire in the back yard. This is when I lived with my very close minded Catholic Grandmother.

I find that food magick works well when you don't want others to know what you're doing.  People will think you're just having lunch!
