I was wondering if anyone could recommend some books or resources on kitchen/green witchcraft. My husband is very interested in exploring that path but I am not of much help. Someone we know recommended Marian Green, but they seem more wicca oriented than anything else. Any suggestions (non Wiccan based) would be appreciated!  Grin

Your husband has the same problem a lot of people, including myself, have found. It really is hard to find Witchcraft books in general that are not Wiccan based.

I recommend Ellen Dugan's books, they do have some Wiccan influence, but you can ignore them or change them to fit your or your husband's personal path. Also any herb or plant book is great, you can get some general plant information book, medinical, and metaphysical books. I have lots and they add a lot of knowledge to your Green and Kitchen Witchcraft.

I just got The Way Of The Green Witch: Rituals, Spells, And Practices to Bring You Back to Nature by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. I looks good and seems light on the Wiccan influence. So you might also be interested in that book.

I hope that helps.

Hmm... what are we talking about here, exactly? Do you want to know about magic to do with food, mixing up teas, getting in touch with nature, or sinking your roots into the land? Do you want to get to know land spirits, Fae, or just heart the heartbeat of your home land? Personally, no single book does all that for me. Some blogs have helped, but not all of them are... well... tame. I need to know a bit more about what he wants to know before I can safely point him somewhere.

That helps thanks. I have bought him a bunch of books on herb and medicinal plant info. He is not to sure what he is looking for at this point. He has been a atheist for 28 years so he is still very much in the searching stages. (All he can tell me is that he is not intrested in Wicca or soft polytheisim of anykind. lol helpful I know). I have been searching for months and it is really remarkable how many books are Wiccan based. I am beginning to get frustrated right along with him.  Smiley

For non wiccan witchcraft have you looked at works by Robert Cochrane and Andrew Chumbley and similar?  Daniel Schulke's book on wort cunning  (use of plants in magic) "Viridarium Umbris"  is quite brilliant but eye wateringly expensive. You won't tend to find them in the high st bookstores but they are not hard to find online.

This may or may not strike a chord with him.
