So, of course it's entirely possible the goddess in my dream was a figment of my brain, but if not, it would be nice to know. I don't feel thwapped, at any rate, but I'm interested. I usually don't dream about people I don't know/have never seen.

I was in a brambly area with a sense of urgency, and I saw someone charging through the brush coming towards me. My subconscious asked "Artemis?" and got a resounding feel of well, okay I see where you got that BUT a huge eyeroll because the goddess was pregnant! She was wild-eyed and fierce with curly dark hair, a long red tunic, and yes, brandishing a bow and arrow. I got a whisper of the name "Melsinoe" but Googling turns up nada.

I know that Melinoe is Persephone's daughter by Zeus, but based on the little I could find I'm not sure that fits, since all I could find of that estimable lady is that she's a death goddess whose limbs were half dark and half light, which isn't what I saw.

Any ideas?  Smiley

Are you even sure the deity in question was Greek? http://www.goddess-guide.com/fertility-goddesses.html <-- That is a list of all goddesses related to fertility, but I didn't see anything that would directly fit what you saw in your dream.

When I did a search for "Melsinoe" a bunch of Italian websites came up.

I'm definitely not sure at all she's Greek, in fact, I don't think she is- my subconscious thought Artemis because of the bow and then the name was similar to the name of a Greek goddess, but it doesn't fit any Greek goddess I know of.

I'm just throwing this out there, but the first thing I thought of was Frigga and that you misheard the word "mistletoe". I'd have to look it up, but I think there's some connection between Norse myth and Briar Rabbit (brambly area), and the mistletoe used to kill her son Baldr was shot with an arrow. She's also a motherly goddess and I was reminded of this picture: http://mirrorcradle.deviantart.com/art/Frigga-Expecting-49727955

But I'm heathen, so my mind would automatically go there wrt to identifying gods.  Wink

Edit: Heh, ok I was completely off on the Briar Rabbit thing. *Wonders where the Hel she got that idea.*

I'm not sure, but it does not sound like a greek deity to me.

I remember reading something somewhere about a goddess like that but the name was a little different. The one I am thinking of is definately wild and had a baby. I will look through my books and try to figure out where I heard about her.

It's a long shot but you could try googling Melusine/Melusina, although it doesn't sound like there were any watery associations for you.

Have you considered the possibility that she's not a goddess found in lore or myth currently?

I'm personally of the belief that not all the deities that do exist are known to us. And I also think that there are deities that were known to our more primal ancestors who's worship didn't get passed down as tribes and national identities died out.

It's something to consider. With or without myth, this dream seems to have had a powerful effect on you and I think she's worth contacting again.

I had a supposition this might be the case, but definitely was hoping not! I am absolute crap at meditation. Although maybe it's not too much to hope that if she was willing to come to me in a dream once she'd do so again, particularly if I asked nicely.

I came up with this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meskhenet
cuz she's also called mesenet.

also:
minona

~African Goddess is known as a Protector of women of Benin
~ Minona goddess grants fertility to women and the fields.
~ Her fertility Symbol is Palm Kernel with which she can divine the future

Muso Koroni
Ancient Goddess of Fertility

~ Muso Koroni is aWest African goddess of fertility
~ this fertility goddess is mainly worshipped in Mali.
~ She is beautifully pictured as a woman with many breasts
~ She is known as the mother of all things
~ Muso Koroni is also a goddess of transfromation who takes the form of a black panther each month and uses her claws to make women menstruate.

also images of Minoan goddesses reminded me of your description of her having wild long dark hair:

Hm. What about Mastor-Ava? She's a Russian fertility/earth goddess. Not much to be found about her, unfortunately.
