Merry meet!

I'm Ezia (ett-zee-uh), I'm a twenty-year-old university student, and have been lurking around The Cauldron forums for nearly a month now. I'm very interested in Paganism (I'm not sure which path, if any, yet) and have been doing a lot of reading both online and offline about various paths and Paganism in general.

I used to be a non-denominational Christian, mainly because I firmly believe in 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' and 'love thy neighbour' and such, but when I finally got around to reading The Old Testament in its entirety a couple of years ago (it's very easy for churches and Christians to focus on the New Testament, isn't it?!), I was pretty damn offended by a lot of what I found (periods are dirty and shameful and horrible, stay away from evil menstruating women...if OT God says rape, you rape!...if kids laugh at your baldness, yeah, they deserve to DIE) and started to distance myself from Christianity and look at other religions. Yes, I could have *no* religion, but I've tried not to and I really am some sort of Deist...once I started looking into Paganism, I knew that something along those lines was right for me! (Disclaimer: I still have Christian friends and family, and I still agree that Jesus was pretty awesome and I wish fundies would follow his example of love and tolerance. I don't hate Christianity, I just couldn't align myself with it any more)

Um...I've written a nice mini-essay there, so I'll leave it at that for now!

...when I finally got around to reading The Old Testament in its entirety!

Hi Ezia! I've had the same problems with the OT. Just beastly, horrid stuff. My wife and I visited a Coptic Orthodox (Christian) church that was having a festival this Summer, and I talked to a couple people. They were impressed by my knowledge of Egypt. Roll Eyes But they said "We don't really pay much attention to the OT, we just read the prophecies about the Nativity during Advent, and that's it." I said "That sounds like a good way to go!"

Anyway, Welcome to the Cauldron!

(it's very easy for churches and Christians to focus on the New Testament, isn't it?!)

I've always thought that was the way to be - Christ, Christians, get it?

Anyway, welcome to delurking from a fellow Brit!
