Is there any rule on how old a thread is before it's not supposed to be commented on?  In terms of when the latest comment was posted.

I don't want to be committing acts of thread necromancy... messing wit those kinds of forces rarely goes well. Tongue

There is no official rule against it.  Just keep in mind that the further back you go, the less likely the people involved in that thread will remember what they were thinking at the time (if they are still active at all).

We don't have rules against "thread necromancy." Like rules against double-posting, they just aren't needed or wanted here. The only thing to watch out for is replying to really old requests for help/info.

All of this makes a lot of sense. It seems like most of the rues here are an extension of common sense of one sort or another.
