I tried to change my user name several times, but I need my password to do so and I have no clue what it was. I tried everything I could think of.
How can I find out what I used as a password so I can change my user name?    Undecided

Have you tried "don't remember your password thing" from the logon area? Assuming you use the email address you signed up with, it often (but not always) works.  Or your browser may have saved your password. I can tell you how to find them in Firefox if you use Firefox.

I donít think I have a log in. I type in ec into the browser (the white bar thing at the very top) and click on the first thing that comes up and It just takes me rite to the forum main page.
I donít think I have fire fox, I have windows vista.  Unless Iím talking about two entirely different programs, but I think it is the same.

Well, yeah, you are talking about two entirely different programs.  Firefox is a web-browser program; Windows Vista is an operating system (that means it runs everything on your computer, not just online).  Since you aren't sure about this stuff, you're probably just using the web browser that came with your computer, which'd be Internet Explorer.

It sounds, though, like the reason Randall's advice was confusing is that you're permanently logged in - that's not a bad thing; it just means that, when the board software asked you what length of login time you wanted, you chose "stay logged in forever".  (I chose that one, too, because I'm here so much.)  You won't see an option that asks, "don't remember your password?" (or "forgot your password?" or other variants - I'm not sure what phrasing our software uses) unless you're logging in or doing something else that requires it.

Of course, you have been trying to do something that requires it:  change your username.  And that's when you'll see the prompt.  Try again to change your name, and at the point where it's asking for your password, look to see if there's a prompt.  Click it, and it should send you an email at the email address you used for your account when you signed up (probably with a new randomly-generated password, rather than telling you your old one, though I could be wrong - either way, it'll be a password that works... if this works at all, since Randall says it sometimes doesn't).

Oh, I just thought of something - it might be that you're not permanently logged in, but that you added it to your computer's password manager program (when you sign up/sign in almost anywhere, your computer gives you a pop-up that asks if you want the password manager to remember that password; you have to tell it "yes" or "no" to make the window go away, so it'd be easy to do without thinking), and it's logging you in each time.  That would be another opportunity to see a "forget your password?" prompt; you'd just have to watch closely and not click the login button, but choose the prompt instead.  (I don't know why your PW manager wouldn't be auto-inserting your PW when you're making changes and the board asks for it, though - I don't use my PW manager so there's a lot I don't know about it.)

If this advice still doesn't help you, let me know what you'd like to change your username to, and I'll get it fixed for you.  (Or whichever staff person sees it first, probably.)

Thank you, Iíll play around with it. Iím thinking the browser likely isnít the long white box thing at the top either. I guess itís pretty apparent why I took time off of school and what course I was struggling with, but Iím ok with that.  Grin

<grin> No, but it's part of your browser - I never remember its proper name, either.  A browser is the program your computer uses to connect with the internet.

Playing around is the best way to learn.
