I couldn't find how to do this in another thread... if I missed it please direct me there.

My in-laws have a cherry-wood branch that they promised I could have for making runes Cheesy . I'm planning on carving the runes into the wood (so no paints or anything). Do I need to remove the bark? It's a branch so the center where the rune will be is fine, but will the roughness of the bark on the outside scratch against the other runes and eventually ruin them? Even though I'm carving the symbols... do I still need to coat them with some sealant? I'm so excited to be making my own set with wood from my mother-in-law's garden! They are getting rid of the tree so I don't want to mess this up...  Sad

Any tips?  Grin
