Long story short, I've been on a journey toward good health and weight loss.  Through this journey, I have discovered a sort of archetype or power animal through the tiger.  I'll be honest and say I really don't understand how the whole thing works (animals never being my specialty other than to pet and love them), but I wanted to honor the spirit of the animal and to show off my achievements by getting a tattoo on my ankle.  In the meantime, I though I would get a stone to represent the journey (those lovely ups and downs) and thought of several choices, but last night I got a cosmic two by four.  Tiger's Eye! Duh. I can't believe I didn't think about it before.  I thought I could place the stone in my pocket or somewhere near by when I am exercising to give me even more inspiration.  So, what I am wondering is...what exactly are the properties of Tiger's Eye?  I'm looking for all aspects--mind, body, spirit.  I have _The Crystal Bible_, but I'm not certain as to how accurate it is comparative to other resources and all internet sources seem to be saying different things.  Would someone be kind and point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

All UPG -  I don't know a lot of stone lore and just work from the gut.

Tiger's eye is one of the stones I strongly associate with Brighid. It represents strength, vitality, inner fire, and transformation. I see it as a 'frozen' bit of molten metal, caught mid-forge. Tiger's eye helps set fire to the kindling you've carefully gathered and arranged.

I have a tiger's eye pendant that I wear every day in remembrance of my deity, Sekhmet. When I first saw it online and saw the way the colors swirled, I knew it was for her. Of course, that's as UPG as Ellen's statements, so... I've always associated this stone with strength, brass balls, and the inner fortitude to kick ass at anything I put my mind to. My pendant is as much a focus for the ability to get through the tough days as it is for my goddess.

You know, Ellen, I have no doubt that Brighid isn't involved with this project of mine, so your comments are a wonderful affirmation for me.  Thank you.

This makes me wonder if Brighid might have any association with Tigers in addition to domesticated cats? I think She is associated with cats...someone correct me if I am wrong.

This is my UPG on it too.

(It's my birthstone, so I definitely see it as having those associations. Wink)

All of the above, plus the duality of light and dark - perfect stone for Sekhmet.

OK, here we go, book at hand. Smiley

Tigers Eye is a known semi-precious gemstone since middle of the 19th century in Europe, therefore it is not described in the works of Hildegard of Bingen and others.

Other names are cat or wolfs eye.

(It is maybe interesting that the tigers eye is a secondary form of the stone called falcons eye, which is more blue, the stones can be together in one piece.)

Physically it is supposed to help with bronchitis and asthma. Helps against pain in joints and bones, headaches and migraines, tendonitis. Helps against inflammations and other problems with nerves.

Mentally it is said to help with fears of decisions or success. Helps with depressions and gives optimism. Wakes up the inner sun and thus compensating mood swings, stress and doubts. It helps to see clear and strenghtens the intuition.

Energetically it hems the energyflow in the meridians (thus helping with strong pains like migraine and tendonitis), but becuase of this property one should not wear it to long, it could result in numb toes and fingers. It balances out the Yin- and Yang energies.

And that is what Kühni/Holst write about it. Wink

As always I recommend to go with the own intuition when you want to select a certain stone.
That works the best, no matter what is written somewhere. Wink

I have _The Crystal Bible_, but I'm not certain as to how accurate it is comparative to other resources and all internet sources seem to be saying different things.

To be honest here, when it comes to crystal lore there is not such thing as 'accurate'. Every crystals entry in every book will have different things, so other then cultural-historical lore, its benefits will always vary. It's all part of the New Age-driven commercialism

Personally, I think it has a lot more to do with the person who is actually using it. I can't use Tigers Eye very often as it gives me the most incredible headache, but I find it brilliant for fevers, viruses and blood disorders (for other people-I can't use my own crystals for myself). But, other people have different uses for it. The books are supposed to be a guide, not the law.

I'm glad you said that, because it's so confusing sometimes when all of these books say different things.  I think you are right about taking it for what it's worth.

I wear a Tiger's Eye ring all the time.  I read that it is a enhancer of the ability to know the meaning of dreams and trances and translate them.  hadn't heard about the connection with Brigid. hehehe  I chose both name and ring with out knowing that.

Personally, I consider Tiger's Eye to be a very regal stone because of the gold tones, I therefore associate it with Mut who is a Queen Goddess (and one of my Beloved's).  I find it helps with strength, self-confidence, self-image, etc.
